I'm 13 and of average size for my age. If I run half marathons and do a lot of long distance running, how will this effect my body? Please answer this in detail. I've heard from some people that it hurts speed. Slows me down in shorter distances like the mile run. I've also heard running fast for long distances hurts knees......

Right well i was running close to 3miles 6days a week in under 22mins for nearly 4months, when i started i was doing just the 1 mile. When i apporached the 3mile mark i was looseing fitness and found out that my body was exhausted and well over-trained so i took 2weeks off weights and running to completely recover. I started again the other night and barely managed to do 1 mile! How long is it going to take to get back to previous standards and then so i can start pushing for more?! This is worrying as im meant to be applying for the royal marines very soon!!

I like to jog in tempo with the music to help keep a steady pace of about a 10 minute mile. I prefer alternative music, but would be open to other stuff if it's good.

okay. i am trying to get down to about 9 minutes for my mile..and righ now, it's looking pretty dim. I have until august, and this is something important to me, i need tips on how to do the mile in a nice average time, nothing spectacular. i am willing to run as much as possible, but I have asthma which puts a damper on things..so can you give me some tips on how to work on it and not have a horrible summer. Do I need to be doing other excercises?? I already do about 100 sit ups per nite. I'm doing all this for myself. I don't play any sports, nor do I plan on it, but I want to set a goal and reach it..! please advice..??

P.s. I am not fat. but am out of shape..I want a 9 minute mile, which may seem soo long to you runners, but as I said I don't play sports, nor do I plan to, I just want this for myself.. I don't have access to a track... but I do have access to an almost flat road...?

Why is jogging in place much less tiring then jogging for distance?

My son is 9 years old, he will be 10 in august. He is been in Taekwondo since he turned 4. He has been brown senor for past year. I kept him from testing because I thought he was to young to spar 3 brown belts and run 2 mile or 8 laps around the track loop.
He knows his weapons and all the moves by heart.Should I keep him from testing another year.He is always scared when he has to spar in class. Don't get me wrong ,No one hurts him. He also has a special fiber glass helmet that I ordered for him.
Any ways , I need a plan . Should he sprint the first lap? Should he wear special bottom padded sneakers? Should he eat or drink something to give him energy? Should he take a pain reliever before running ,so he won't feel pain? Please help me to help him. He worked very hard to get here, but he has a disadvantage been young. He doesn't have the strenght of a teenage boy.His bones haven't developed yet.

Ok, I had already run about 3 miles, but my chest started hurting. It was high up, felt like right around my heart. My heart was still beating, but when I breathed in hard, I got awful pain. Slowing down and walking made it much less painful. This is the second time I've had this happen, and it's quite disconcerting. Thoughts?

I'm thinking about running on a main road tommorow and maybe the next. It's about 3 miles one way and 3 miles back.

First which side of the road should I run on facing the traffic or with my back to the traffic

Second, should I bring a water bottle and second how much water.

I haven't come across too many individuals who have made a successful transition from serious weight training to serious running. As I get older I find myself wanting to be leaner and more fit then muscular and bulky. My question to anyone who might help is what would realistically happen to my body physically if I went from serious weight training (4-5 times a wk) and flipped over to serious running (4-5 times a week). How much muscle would I lose over a 6 month period. I want to run a marathon next Feb so I figured I better start now......All advice is appreciated from all....

Is it better to run for distance or for time? Like, is it better to say your going for a mile run or saying your going to run for a certain amount of time?

I'm an off/on runner (more off than on) who would like to get off the treadmill and out on the streets but a little afraid to run by myself since I'm normally on the treadmill around 5am. I've noticed this runner in the neighborhood that I'm tempted to ask if I can join him. Is it rude to ask him during his run since I don't know where he lives? Or should I just not bother?

I used to love to run, up to 3 miles a day. I took about 1 to 2 years off from it, and now want to get back into it. The problem is that my right knee starts aching after only a few days of running. It's not a sharp pain, but a dull ache and I feel like not matter what position I put my leg in it is not comfortable. When I quit running for about a week it goes away. I never had any problems with my knee before.

Did I just lose strength in that knee? Should I keep running and hope it gets better and stronger through running? Should I do some kind of physical thearpy on my knee first to see if I can strengthen it before I start running again?

Thanks!
