Right well i was running close to 3miles 6days a week in under 22mins for nearly 4months, when i started i was doing just the 1 mile. When i apporached the 3mile mark i was looseing fitness and found out that my body was exhausted and well over-trained so i took 2weeks off weights and running to completely recover. I started again the other night and barely managed to do 1 mile! How long is it going to take to get back to previous standards and then so i can start pushing for more?! This is worrying as im meant to be applying for the royal marines very soon!!

You might have pushed your muscles to the limit that they began to shut down. When you feel this happening, you should reducing the running. Don't take such a long break next time but make sure you're eating right, resting well, and not pushing yourself to the point of injury and muscle fatigue.

Stop whining !! And congratulations on joining the Royal Marines. I wish you the best.

Don't try to push yourself back to your previous speed and mileage all in ONE DAY. Get Real !! Take your time and let your body readjust to running again. If you relax and listen to your body, you'll recover remarkably fast. Two examples:

In the best shape of my life, 25-30 miles a week, serious accident, hospital 17 days. 3 months no exercise while I recovered. Painful at first, but I was happy to get back on the road, jogging and walking a little. Eased back into routine but never quite had much energy/stamina. It took me a full year to recover the endurance (1987).

Trained for marathon in 1988, stress fracture in one leg. Took off the whole month of August. Finished the marathon in December, not gloriously because of cramps due to temperature.

You;ll return to good form if you relax and be patient. Good Luck

unfortunately, you can get out of shape REALLY fast. one day is enough rest, you shouldn't really take ore than one day off in a row. according both my track and cross country coach, if you take about 3 days off in a row you loose about three weeks worth of training.
I used to have a 6:10 mile near the end of the season, I took three days off and my time went to 6:40

I'm constantly injured so my doctor put it in simple math for me. For every week you take off, it will take double that to get back to where you were! So you took off two weeks, this would put you at four weeks to get completely back to where you were! Thats why I refrain from taking any time OFF and just bike and pool run!!

I understand how you are feeling.
I had that feeling after coming back from a week of vacationing at the Phillpines.
However, it's all in your head.
Of course you've lost some fitness, but really not much.
It's all in your head, get it out! <3! :)

well the same thing has happened to me,the main problems are it only takes 2 days to start losing muscle mass but it takes a whole week to begin to gain it.Your stamina will come back but that too can be lost rather quickly.

same **** happened to me when I stopped working out. the best thing i can tell you is to do 1 mile today and keep increasing it a little everyday. eventually you will get back to 3 miles.
good luck
