I just got new shorts yesterday (they were expensive, too!) and thought I'd test them out today. I only got 3 miles (and barely back home!) because they chafed so badly! Is this because it was 90 F and like 70 % humidity, or do I have to see if they will accept returns after washing???
Also, what can I do to fix the disgusting red marks on my skin??? I know to use baby powder or deodorant on my next run, but how can I make the actual red splotchiness go away???

Hi!
In two weeks I want to take part in Half Marathon. Since September I am running 3 times/ week for 30-40 min. However, last week I started to feel a pain in my knee while I am running (it is not a big pain but still I can feel it). I'm afraid that I injuried my knee - do you know what I can do to cure it fast, should I use elastic bandage while I am running?

I have to run a mile every Friday at my school. I got 8:20 yesterday and 7:19 last Friday. I want to get 6:30 at the very most. If anyone could post some tips on breathing, running around the corners, running in general, etc., that would really help.

Thanks for posting!

cross country ends this month, and im doing better in it, but I think one thing would help me. Improving my mile time. Right now my mile time is around 6 minutes which is above average for my school, but to myself I think it sucks. By track season, which begins in spring, I need some sort of training plan for me to turn my 6 minute mil e into a 5 minute one..so I'm around the same as Pre was in his freshman year.

I am running my first 1/2 marathon at the beginning of November (in Taiwan). TRAINING SO FAR: For the past 5 weeks I have been training for the 1/2 marathon (5 days a week...Runners World prgm). I still lift weights 5 days a week (only upper body). Ok? I started marathon training at the end of August so it will be about 9 weeks of marathon specific training (before that I lifted weights 5 days a week and jogged for cardio exercise 3 days a week). LIFE STYLE CHANGES: I have sucessfully given up little things like drinking beer, soda, and eating sweets. I've been stretching a lot, drinking lots of water, and taking ibprofen. QUESTIONS: I have an okay pair of running shoes that are getting a bit warn (soles and the begins of a tear in the side of my shoe). They will probably be okay until the marathon but not much longer. Is it too late to consider a new pair? Also, what other advice can serious runners give me so I will be as physically and mentally prepared as possible for the big day?

I'm trying to get into running. At the moment, I can easily walk as much as 10 miles, but when I run, I usually get to about a1/2 mile before I have to slow down and start walking. My goal is to be able to run a mile, which as I understand is a cake run for experianced runners, but still a goal for me. In the long term, I want to be able to run marathons. Anyway, I have borderline high blood pressure and cholesterol. How does running and those conditions affect one another? I'm Male, 22 and 155 lbs.

Hi, I just joined the u.s. army and have 3 weeks before my physical training pre-entrance test to where i have to run 1 mile under 8:30 minimum to pass. I've actually been delayed, and have been running a few weeks before, i made it at least 60 ft. from a mile, then slacked a little at home, went again week later and only ran a half before tiring out. now i havent ran in at least a week and im down to 3/8 a mile before i tire out, i dont have long at all before my test and ship date, idk if i can make it, do you think it's possible to reach a mile or more by 3 weeks with my current condition? anything i should do about my breathing too? i feel as if im hyperventilating anymore

I have a back and ankle injury that im currently having physio on (and for the last 5 or so years). On good days I can walk and jog and I like to do this with my 10month old Cocker Spaniel Lab X puppy.

She's quite energetic at times and likes to run a lot faster than me. My Mum who is a very good mountain runner (She's beaten Melissa Moon, Woman's World Champion Mountain Runner) also has this problem.

If you go running with your dog is she/he like this? Do you know how to train my puppy so she doesn't think she's running a race? Will this get better as she gets older?

Well, I just started cross country this year, its my first. When I started to do the conditioning and the normal workouts, I seemed to do pretty good. Now its about halfway through the season and my legs get sooo tired during 5k races. My left foot also hurts like heck right below the achilles tendon on the back of the heel, and around the ankels as well. I have a meet in 2 days, should I take these two days off before it to heal a bit , or will it make me run worse on my meet as opposed if i ran those two days.

Right now I have strep throat. I'm just starting to get better today. I felt well enough to go for a run. I started to run and about 1 mile in i got this horrible cramp in the right side of my abdomen. I generally don't get any cramps and i can't recall where i had pain that was even close to this. I stopped and every time i started again the same thing happened. At one point it was so bad i had to sit down for 5 minates. I'm currently on pennicillin. i'm curious if anyone has any idea if this is just a side effect of the medication, the sickness or if this is something to be seriously concerned about.

I was training my my first marathon for several months. I had to skip my scheduled 16,17 and 20 miles runs due to the injury. I was XT for 3 weeks, but not running. My doctor just OK'ed me to run again. Should I attempt to run 20 miles this weekend? My longest run was 15 miles so far and I would like to be able to walk/run 26.2 in few weeks. Any advise?
