Right now I have strep throat. I'm just starting to get better today. I felt well enough to go for a run. I started to run and about 1 mile in i got this horrible cramp in the right side of my abdomen. I generally don't get any cramps and i can't recall where i had pain that was even close to this. I stopped and every time i started again the same thing happened. At one point it was so bad i had to sit down for 5 minates. I'm currently on pennicillin. i'm curious if anyone has any idea if this is just a side effect of the medication, the sickness or if this is something to be seriously concerned about.

You should never run if you have a fever or are taking medication.
If you go out too soon you will get worse and your recovery will take longer so you will miss more time.

The cramps may be from dehydration, which is common for people who are ill.

Relax and stay inside until you are cured.

Usually a general rule of thumb is if its above the throat, run, but if its below in the lungs don't. Strep is an exception though. Don't run with strep. As for the cramps, I got them and usually I just push through them but once I had a reeally bad one and still pushed through it and it hurt really bad but it went away.

If you never had this problem before and you are not doing anything differently I can not imagine why you are becoming nauseated now. Perhaps you have an intestinal problem such as an infection. The surface you run on will not have any effect on your stomach. If your diet and time of meals has not changed why would you be sick now, and never before? You need to have a physical, and talk to a doctor.

NEVER take your eye off the ball. RULE OF THUMB: A day of rest is as good as a day of training. This is most apparently evident in the case of illness. Your body needs all the energy it has to fight the illness.

Strep is serious dude. So are antibiotics. Running with a cold is fine, but don't do it with strep.
