The first commandment for runners is to stop when you feel pain. So what else needs to be said? A good idea is to visit a sports medicine doctor who may be able to tell you what the problem is and how to cure it and prevent it.
At this point in time I suggest you concentrate on the knee and set up a training plan for a half M later down the road. A runner's rule of thumb is that you can run and complete (on any given day) up to 3 times your AVERAGE DAILY MILEAGE. You can do the math to determine where you fit in at this point.
Good Luck whatever your decision

imo you should stop running altogether until it is healed. You should go to your doctor for sure, and keep it bandaged. If it's a sprain or strain alternate between icing it and heat 15-20 minutes on 30 minutes off, change out and repeat. Keep off of it as much as possible until the pain is gone and then start excercising it slowly at first and build back up to a normal routine. If you have a strain or sprain continuing to run on it will almost certainly cause the condition to get worse leading to longer down time. Also make sure you are wearing the right shoes, if you are flat-footed it's especially important to make sure you have good arch support.

im sure you know the best (and maybe only) way to heal your knee is to rest, if you really want to run the half then go for it with the elastic, worse comes to worse you will just have to drop out, you could also try new running shoes, i run a lot and always use asics, best by far, i have had all kinds of issues with pain using other more commercial trainers

You need HI-RICE:
Hydration -- drink a lot
Ibuprofen -- for pain
Rest -- get horizontal
Ice -- put ice cubes in a zip-lock; wrap zip-lock in towel
Compression -- wrap an ACE bandage around the area
Elevation -- put pillows under leg until it's higher than heart
I would go to a shoe store that specializes in running shoes, and see if they can see anything in your bio-mechanics that might have caused it. But my guess is that you just added too much mileage too quickly.

If I had the surgical operation 8 years in the past i would not been in consent discomfort as i'm now. ethical of all this: do no longer assume something to return to typical reason it won't, no longer with out the right scientific care. i do unlike operations of any variety yet each so often they're mandatory. on the time all this started i became into 62 - i'm now 70. i visit continually have discomfort - i visit continually be taking discomfort pills and putting chilly packs on the knee. If this is what you elect to watch for { THEN decide for IT } it is your existence. by no potential be waiting to stroll around a mall for to long, communicate walks with your hubby play with your super grandchildren. sounds like an impressive existence...
