I'm trying to get into running. At the moment, I can easily walk as much as 10 miles, but when I run, I usually get to about a1/2 mile before I have to slow down and start walking. My goal is to be able to run a mile, which as I understand is a cake run for experianced runners, but still a goal for me. In the long term, I want to be able to run marathons. Anyway, I have borderline high blood pressure and cholesterol. How does running and those conditions affect one another? I'm Male, 22 and 155 lbs.

if i were u id just eat healthily and practice , and graduly build up. also it might just be genetic that you have low endurance.. i have super low endurance, but i have allllot of speed and i can win sprint events easily, so maybe you are better suited to doing short didtance like me.. hope this helped , good luck

Dangerous. Don't run, just walk. A simple walk for about 30 minutes either with your girlfriend or dog should be enough. I read that a 30 min walk gives you up to 75% of your daily exercise requirement. Running may aggravate the condition by dehydrating you even more... or worse put your heart under strain and clash with your medication. Stick to walks and a good diet. Look up raw foods diet, or dash diets. Low sodium, plenty of fruits and vegetables! low sugar, low saturated fats, plenty of liquid 2L a day! For exercise try to do some yoga! I wouldn't recommend anything other then that until you see a cardiologist and he does a full stress test on you, and tells you what you should and should not do. So try to get a referral from your local doctor asap. Good luck

Running makes up for many sins on the body. Continued exercise will lower your bp and your cholesterol.

What you need to do is continue to walk daily for at least an hour, with one day of rest. Interject into your walk short jogs. As you progress, you'll interject many shorter jogs into your walk. Then consolidate these 30-second jogs into 1-minute jogs.

I'd suggest this:

Walk 30 minutes, 30-second jog, walk 15 minutes, 30-second jog, walk 14 minutes.
