I've tried this several times to recover from a long run, and I must say that it actually works. I think I let a few choice words slip out when that cold water hit me, but it definitely worked. I didn't have much pain or stiffness in my legs at all the next day. For best results, try to use this method within the first 30 - 45 minutes of completing your run, when your muscles are still warm and haven't started to stiffen yet.

You're right that getting ice can be a pain. One thing I like to do is bag up ice from the freezer's ice maker in one gallon freezer bags. Then I have several bags available whenever needed and you can reuse the bags afterward for more ice. They don't take up too much space in the freezer either, which is an advantage over the whopper bags that you find at the store. You don't need a lot of ice or water .... just enough to submerge your hips and thighs.

Happy Bathing!

Good Question, I always use packs of frozen corn or peas and ice down my knees and it feels great. i dont have enough ice or time to go buy ice to make a ice bath. But always wanted to. I will probably do it after my marathon in December.

Ice baths are definetely great.

You can just use bags of frozen peas. Put them right back in the freezer for the next day. It'll last for a couple of months. Just dont eat them.

ice baths are amazing, they have one in our training room at school we we dont gotta buy ice, but it really sucks cuz the trainers are stupid and never let us have any ice cuz the football players are more important even tho they suck.
