I'm training for a half marathon and I always use an MP3 player...the music really gets me through my runs. But I'm pretty sure they are not permitted on the course I'm running. Is this going to majorly affect my run on race day? Has anyone else trained with an MP3 player and then ran a half/full marathon without it? How'd you do? I'm assuming the race will be at least a little more entertaining than just running circles in my neighborhood.

I've had shin splints off and on in the past but haven't suffered from them in quite a while....I have great shoes, inserts, and do lots of stretching. However, I increased my mileage significantly last week because I'm running a half Marathon next week and wanted to get in as many miles as I could before my taper week. Because of this, my shin splints have returned (I only get them in my left leg) and it is very mild. I need to run 10-11 miles tomorrow to stick with my training schedule. It will be my last long run. Should I skip it? Or should I run it and then take it easy for the next couple of days? I was able to run 10.5 miles last Saturday with no problems.

I am seriously considering buying these shoes at 255.00 from blissworld.com, are they worth it? This is what it claims to do:

MBT Shoes by Swiss Masai
Masai Barefoot Technology ( MBT shoe ) is not just a shoe in the ordinary sense. It is a revolutionary fitness aid from Swiss Masai. MBT shoe's will not only change the way you use your muscles, but will improve the use of your joints and spine.

The MBT shoe has been highlighted for its ability to cushion your feet while challenging your muscles. Clinical studies suggest that regular use improves balance, posture and circulation.MBT Shoes re-establish the natural conditions for standing and walking.

MBT Shoes lets our flat everyday surface become naturally uneven. You walk as if you were walking in sand, as MBT shoes neither support, guide nor absorb shock; rather it stretches, increases power and coordination of the muscle apparatus.

I am a high school freshman trying cross-country for the first time. Out of all the practices we've had so far, my legs and joints always have this sore feeling when I run, even at the beginning, but I don't know why. I can still run, but that achy feeling makes it difficult. What are some ways to prevent aching joints and have a good, strong run?

How do i get faster within 6 months? My sports meet starts at March...which is 6 months from now. I just took 1 month off cause of an injury. What should i do? The 1 month would surely make me sprint slower...so how many times should i sprint a day? I usually run 5 100Ms at the track and rest for 2 days?? Is that too little?? Should i sprint on a day, the next day train on my muscles, next day rest, then sprint and so on?? Or is there a better way to increase my speed within this 6 months. Really need some advice cause im kinda lost after resting for 1 month

8 of the past 9 days I've ran 7 miles each day, almost all of them on a pebbly trail, and with about 1 mile per run at an average of 15% uphill. I have a slight cold, my nose bled during my last run and also while just shooting some hoops yesterday, and my right knee hurts slightly when I step on it. My feet also feel kind of heavy (on the 6th 7-mile run, I actually seemed to have the most energized run of my life, but the 8th and latest run I felt like I weighed +20lbs). So I am probably overtrained right now. How many days off should I take and what should I do while I am resting? Is it okay to lift weights for the upper body while I rest or should I just cut all activity?

My husband is running a marathon right now. I'm making homemade (100%) pizza for his post-run meal. Aside from cheese and tomato sauce, it will have salami, fresh mushrooms, fresh tomatoes, and fresh onions. Is this an adequate meal for after the run?

(He'll already have eaten a banana and some chocolate by the time he arrives home.)

I had been trail jogging 30 minutes about 5 days a week for 3 months. Prior to jogging I did a lot of walking. I have specific trail running shoes. 2 weeks ago I jogged my normal route and then did some stretches. As I was walking home I noticed an ache in my upper thigh and got home and stretched some more. By bedtime my leg couldn't hold any weight. I have been using ice, warm baths, compression bandage. I have gone for the odd short walk. I am still walking with a limp and the pain has moved to my outer thigh. So my questions are how long can this ache go on for?, what did I do? (I have no swelling or bruising)?, when I am able to jog again will I be back at square 1?, is my limp causing new pain?, could someone give some encouragement? Thanks
