Considering it as a present for my elite athlete husband. Is it worth the money ($169)?

I really like mine also the 201,

I think I paid 125$ with a mail in rebate.

If he's an elite athlete, he may want a couple more bells and whistles, but this one works real well for me.

It shows your speed, time, distance, calories burned etc etc but it doesn't hook to a heart rate monitor.
It saves alot of your previous runs to do comparisons, and you can Hook it to your PC and download the info and it will chart the spots you went faster or slower.

Some issues are that it takes a while to locate the GPS satellites, only a big issue if you take far from where you normally use it like from Colorado to Florida, expect a 20 min. start up time in a new place and a 5 min. start up in a repeat area. Also it may be sensitive to cover from trees or heavily wooded areas, also high buildings in downtown Chicago caused mine to go on the fritz every so often.

Overall I would recommend the product.

I really like mine. I got the 201 which is the cheapest model. I got it on E Bay for under $100. I think you can find some good deals there too. I know exactly how far I have run, I can compare previous workouts, I know the altitude--it's great. Plus it uses a rechargeable battery so it is light and you don't have to buy new batteries.

speaking as a former competetive(sp) runner, they are worth every cent. I only wish I had one when I was in college. (there is no reason imo to get better than the $100 one tho, I've had heartrate monitors before and they are overrated imo)
