I’m thinking of the great stages of human progress which also resulted in significant losses to religion; Galileo’s discoveries and of course Darwin’s theory. What could be the next one?

The literal interpretation of scripture is only advocated by a Cult that claims to be the only true saved Christians. Millions of Christians would differ including the Catholics who in their heyday were the fundamentalist jerks of the Dark Ages.

I wouldn't venture to guess how the universe came to be the way it is. There are plenty of competent scientists working on that and other questions. I certainly wouldn't involve a morality parable in any conjectures, no more than I would use the parable of Sodom and Gomorrah to decide how God feels about gays.

Most of the rhetoric from this Luddite group is indicative of a group of psychologically disenfranchised individuals with authority issues. They misunderstand that when Jesus spoke of the Word of God he refers to himself and his followers. The children of God are the “Living Word of God.” These cultists worship the Bible as if it’s a part of the Godhead.

well then there would be no God, and space would have always had to of existed, atheists say "alright well if you can believe that there is a God, and he has always been existing, why can't space have been that way, instead of being created?" well, is it not true that life can only come from previous life? when scientists clone something , they take dna from something that was previously living or still is, so if space has always been there, and space is not living, how are we in existance today? i know some people will get hostile, even though this is a(n) honest question, but try to keep your calm

Are there any symbolic people in Wicca? I mean like Christianity has Noah and Jesus. Does Wicca have anything like that?

Someone just asked a question which book of the Bible to start with and one of the answers was to read the New Testament first because the old one is too violent and literal.
? Is it just me, or does that send an unpleasant message about the Bible?

No offense to the answerer, I know they meant well.

I am sick and tired of atheists saying that there was an evolution to the Devil when nothing could be further from the case. While it may be true that Jews don't currently believe in the Devil like we do, they once did believe in the same type of Satan that opposed the Lord like the kind that we Christians believe and there is plenty of evidence for that.

What happened was the Jewish religion fell apart a few hundred years before Christ which is why there are not any books of the Old Testament that take place right before the birth of Christ. This explains the gap.

There is NO evolution in the history of Satan.

What do you think?

Ideas about God copied from those written by man not counted.Women who carried the beginning of life for more than 9 months should know more about "giving birth" than men who merely wrote about it. Wanting their descendants to be as numerous as sand on the beach is definitely a man's idea.

As women push the envelop of human civilisation, women should demand that the world must be a better place for
them to bring forth new births.

As it is, a few hundred million men could not find a mate. Women need to evolve their thinking and bring about an
Alternative Order - a New God order. Banish men's fantasy
that this world will come to an end by their own hands(sins).

Sorry for the last question, it's not my spelling, it's my keyboard acting up.

I want to know specific law suits that were brought against the church that supposedly led to the LDS church giving blacks the priesthood. All the anti-Mormons say that this was why, and I dont' know any specific suits.

The priesthood is NOT a civil rights issue, because it's not a job. II bet if you look hard enough, you won't find anything about any law suit. No one would have, because it would have been a violation of the first amendment.

And if so, what does that make God, who has a whole laundry list of abominations and sins and other intolerances?

2007-07-26 18:01:12 · 19 answers · asked by Anonymous

The ones who commit every abomination in the "Book" but condemn the one (see: homosexuality) they don't?

The ones saying I'm intolerant for being intolerant of intolerance?

The ones who play football (pigskin), eat shellfish (anything without fins & a tail is an abomination), are haughty, or who have ever told a lie in all their lives.

Or is it the God they themselves have invented? He's the one preaching about "not casting the first stone" and then casting, casting and recasting.

Hmm.

... if the church was still a political power?
Remember Vesalius, Galileo, Copernicus? Do you think we´d have gone to the moon? Do you think we´d have medicine? Anesthesia? Democracy?
Is it coincidental that the industrial revolution more or less coincides with the separation of church and state in many countries?
Christians say that everything produced by science is there because god put it in the heads of the researchers. Why hasn´t he done that 7,500 years ago in Catalhoyuk (turkey) or in Ur?
Why wait millenia and millions of people suffering from easy (today) to cure illnesses.
The church is moving with a low profile these days because its political power is best used in the shadows. In its heyday didn´t it bully, burned, tortured, emprisonned for life, caused horrendous wars? Wouldn´t it do the same if it had the chance?
Look at the countries that went back to fundamentalism, Do they thrive?
Is that the future that you want for your kids?
Is that god´s glory for you?
