What does it TRULY mean to be a Christian?

Not an easy question because you have to have a good understanding of who God is first, then what we are as created but sinful human beings. If you don't believe God created everything, then all else is mute. If you do, then you need to understand that although God created a perfect world, mankind disobeyed His direct commandment and fell from grace. God then set His plan in motion to provide a Redeemer, to come through the nation of Israel who He gave His standard of living to (the Mosaic Law). Jesus is that Redeemer and it is only through Him that we can access the throne of God. While ALL Scripture is profitable (2 Tim 3:16) as Christians we are to emulate and desire to be like our Savior. Mark 12:30-31 tells us:
you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength." This is the first commandment. And the second is like this: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these.
In a nutshell, truly being a Christian means to Love. Love God and love others as yourself because:
John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only-begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
1 John 4:8 The one who does not love has not known God. For God is love.

Grow in the Grace and knowledge of God
Love others (including other Christians)
All in all it is pretty simple
Read the Bible
Pray
Talk about God

To lead a life commited to:
Piety,
Prudence,
Temperance,
Fortitude,
Integrity
and Justice.
Commitment to these principles are shared by other beliefs as well.

it's that easy. that's how you recieve heaven and eternal life...but i think to be a christian you must act on your salvation and every day try to become more like Christ.

i'm glad you asked! many people claim to be Christians but don't know who God is and do not have a relationship with Him.
love god and love others.
**having a relationship with Him. - God is a relational and personal God and it really changes one's perspective of the world and shapes one's character to be more and more like Him.

Jesus said we are His friends if we DO as He commands.
That would be, Love God, Love your neighbor. All the rest is just details.

simple straight version ??? BELEIVE GOD ...... KNOWING that Jesus died, was buried and arose from the dead..... that is the gospel of truth according to Paul who was Holy Spirit guided....... read from Romans on.......beleiving IN God is NOT enough, you also have to BELIEVE his word.......
