I can be a cocky atheist (CAN be doesn't mean I WILL be).

It stems from frustration. I just don't see the /sense/ in believing in God. I'm all up for the evidence though, if you can show me he exists I'll be at Church every Sunday, but right now it's 'Faith', it's not using my logic, and even DaVinci has said, "I refuse to believe the God that imbued me with brain and logic, has intended me to forgo their use."

I just get frustrated when I lay out facts, and my beliefs, and the person's response is either:
"Well, we'll see after we die." < What sort of answer is that?
"Well, it's just about faith." < What sort of answer is that?

How does that convert anyone? I just feel so frustrated.

And becoming an atheist isn't always an easy thing. My mom won't talk to me once I told her I was an atheist, so it becomes a sensitive and angry topic.

Hopefully you can appreciate my views, because I know I can appreciate yours. I just argue because that's my nature, being an atheist has nothing to do with it.

You don't seem to know the difference between your beliefs and the objective truth.

Did you know that there is a difference between your beliefs and the objective truth?

Did you know that not knowing this makes christians seem incredibly unintelligent and narrow minded?

Did you know that your jesus is just a rehash of earlier, cooler gods?

Did you know that the bible is a pretty horrible book?

And then you invoke Pascal's wager:

"If god exists, it's infinitely better to believe, since you get heaven instead of hell for eternity. If he doesn't, it doesn't matter since you're dead anyway. So overall it's better to believe"

This is, of course, false.

Some of the problems with the argument:

* The implied assumption that god may exist (with a 50% probability, no less!)

* The assumption that there is an afterlife with a heaven and hell

* The assumption that the god cares about belief in him/her above all else

* The assumption that if you believe in a god, it will definitely be the same god that actually exists.

* The assumption that you lose nothing if it's false. You have lost a great deal, from time praying to a nonexistent entity (some people pray several hours a day!!!) to morality (your god may ask you to hurt other people) and much more besides.

* The assumption that people can believe in something simply because it benefits them. Would you believe goblins exist for twenty bucks? Why not?

* The assumption that any god won't see through the "believing just to get into heaven" ploy.

Something is never reliable. I am not an atheist, but the God in me tell me that those who claim to have religion yet fail to apply the teaching of forgiveness wont be laughing when they die neither.
Is ********* it-self so bad? we can mock of things for happiness, yet logical enough to calculate mathamtics. What a blessing! It take all sorts to make the world, all sorts are from the God! Be humorius if needed be, it is meant to be!

Its not that we are cocky, its just we know that when any human or other animal dies, it is the end (full stop).

It is the Christians (and other religious followers) who are the cocky ones. They go on and on about how the only way to live forever is to follow they myth.

Here is the news...

We have searched and searched all the myths and fairy tails and the evidence is overwhelming:

There is no god / gods. There is no after life. There is no heaven and hell except in our own actions. We make our lives as they are and it is for us to put things right here and now. not to leave it to some mythical being to do it for us.

And if we do not put it right now - there will soon be NO EARTH to live on.

Scare tactics again? Hmmm, lousy appraoach. Pal, based on the odds of what you say being true, I'll take my chances. If there's a God like you say, which I doubt, he'll respect my intellectual honesty and testicular fortitude to state what I honestly believe and live accordingly based on the evidence I see in the world around me, which is that he does not exist. He'll be so impressed with that, he'll snatch me straight up to heaven to be his right hand man. However, I won't hold my breath.

I don't think this is an appropriate way to witness to them and show them God's love, so what they appear cocky. Our religion appears very arrogant, however we don't need to act arrogant, we need to act in love and be a peacemaker...

Your sister in Christ who just gave you a tongue lashing because we need to more like Jesus. Not push people away.. Sometimes we are the only book Atheists read... (although there are alot out there who know the bible almost better than me... I think that is quite an achievment....)

Atheists are cocky because the hypocritical beliefs of your church and God are what keep us confident that we are the ones who still have our heads in reality. Not only that, but the fact that people of all religious vocations have lived a life of restraint and cranial rectimitus only to find out that when you die, nothing happens

They won't be laughing after they're dead, no. 'Cause when you're dead you're dead. And by that I mean you don't go to magic cloud land and be alive again. And if you believe in that stuff, why do you say stuff like this? Why don't you leave the Heaven/Hell sorting to God?

I find irony quite humorous... If I die and find out there really is a god wouldn't that be the height of irony therefore hysterical..

If a bunch of dirt on top of my coffin is what you mean, then I already know what's coming and I'll be ready. For I don't believe in any of your religious nonsense.
