Why do people put Catholics down for following tradition....

when the Bible tells us "to stand firm and hold fast to the traditions that you were taught..." (2 Thess 2:15)? The Bible also says "We instruct you brothers, in the name fo our Lord Jesus Christ, to shun any brother who conducts himself in a disorderly way and not according to the tradition they received from us." (2 Thess. 3:6) "I praise you because you remember me in everything and hold fast to the traditionsl, just as I handed them on to you." (1 Cor 11:2)

The Bible also tells us that not everything Jesus did and taught is in the Bible (Jn 21:25), and that the Church is the pillar and foundation of truth(not scripture) (1 Tim 3:15)

So how can tradition be wrong?

God bless,
Stanbo

What do people who agree with one of these sites think of the other? Both are sites that seek to teach the creation in accordance with the Bible. However one (AiG) is "young earth" and argues that the Bible teaches us that the world is around 6,000 years old. The other has as "Today's new reason to believe" evidence that the universe is over 13.3 billion years old.

It would seem that we have three, completely incompatible, views:
1. Evolution
2. Answers in Genesis type creation
3. Reasons to Believe type creation

Now if you agree with, say, 2 do you think BOTH 1 and 3 are appaling heresies or do you have some way of "accomodating" one whilst still believing the other is "lies"

What a simple thing it would be for an omnipotent deity to put a stop to the shootings that happened today.

How hard would it have been for god to give the shooter a heart attack, etc...

No doubt, some survivors will praise jesus for not being one of the fallen. And others will turn to religion because they can't make sense of the reality they have been placed into.

For Shame.

Jesus was all cool with women. He first revealed Himself to women after he was brought back, he had women in his group, he taught women, and so forth.

Then God came along and screwed everyone over.

Isn't there a difference?

I know my theology is poorly worded.

I have run into this with two girlfriends, and I get mad as hell that they want to baptise the kid (if we "ever" had one). Maybe it's because they presented themselves as non-religious, then pulled this out, or I don't know. Just wondering if that's a common point of contention...?

If you read or hear something bad about the Catholic Church or the Catholic faith, do you make an attempt to verify it, or do you just assume it is true?

Me = agnostic theist
Wife = christian
son = 2 yrs old

I don't really want my wife to spoon feed my son all of this christian stuff that i dont believe in. I have not discussed it much with her because i know it is a fight waiting to happen. i would allow my son to go to church, but i dont want him baptised until atleast 18 and i want him to choose his own path. if he chooses to be christian im fine with that but i dont want his choice based on influences that undermine his innocence.

I had a client today who was very obnoxious. He kept complaining to me about how sick he was and how much his medical bills are.

I advised him to pray about it, ask for forgiveness for being a sinner and ask Jesus into his heart.

He told me that he didn't believe in God so I politely sad "Get thee behind me Satan"

At this the man got irritated and started yelling obscenities.

Why do atheists always wish to persecute us Chrisitans?

whenever i read a question from a christian about stuff like:
"how do you explain christianity surviving for 2000 years?"
only to be swarmed with historical, verifiable facts, that are found everywhere except in the bible, i wonder. does it make you think, "maybe i might be wrong about this christianity thing"?

Does it only include them? Because such good people such as Ghandi and Martin Luther King were not JW and shouldn't they be allowed into heaven?

When Christians are challenged with the validity of the bible view on gay marriage/homosexuality I often see them fall back on the answer "its obviously wrong because no child can come from that union/ they can not reproduce.". So if the reason homosexuality is obviously wrong is because the union cannot result in new life then how about barren women or men who are sterile? how about people who do not want children? are they all equally sinners because they cannot produce children... and are those of us who are perfectly capable but unwilling more so? just curious as to what line of logic you will follow..... if you are just going to fall back on bible quotes about sodomy don't bother to answer.

If you ask a random person what they know about Islam, you will get some random responses. People generally know that Muslims worship Allah, but don't know much else. Plenty of people will venture incorrect guesses, like 'Islam is an Arab religion" or "Islam is only about Jihad" along with the mistaken idea that the word means Holy war. One of the more popular ideas that is now spreading is that "Terrorists are promised 72 virgin women when they die."

The "72 virgins" idea is probably the most overblown idea that people seem to remember about Islam. It's turning into a real stereotype...

[ 4:29] O you who believe, do not consume each others' properties illicitly - only mutually acceptable transactions are permitted. You shall not kill yourselves. GOD is Merciful towards you.

[ 4:30] Anyone who commits these transgressions, maliciously and deliberately, we will condemn him to Hell. This is easy for GOD to do.

If you have please answer and tell me how exactly it works.

My younger sister is married to an ex-gay and she is experiencing SEVERE marital trouble. She constantly complained to me how unfulfilling their love life is. They did manage to have two kids though. He eventually became very depressed, distant, verbally and emotionally abusive. Then he cheated on her with another man recently and is back in "gay rehab". I have to accept that my sister made her choice and must carry the responsibility for it. On the other hand, what if her choice was influenced by FALSE information? Many people do not know all the facts nor that medical professionals condemn these programs. Her husband and his church convinced her that it is TRUE. I am sure others as well.

Personally I am VERY skeptical and I disagree STRONGLY that gay people should be encouraged to marry straight people and bring this kind of turmoil into their lives. How exactly do you change from gay to straight?
