Well if you want to hear it from the horses mouth....
I am a practicing pagan and so you may call me a witch.
I believe that the Divine is both male and female.
I believe that we create our own destiny.
I believe we have far greater power and influence over our lives and our Creator gave us many tools to use to better our lives.
I believe the spiritual and the physical are not as separate as other religions would have them seem.
My faith basically allows me to exercise my own power and the tools of intuition, herbal lore, energetic work and communion with spirits and more to effect and affect my environment in responsible ways. I am not to use these for selfish, petty or hateful reasons.
I believe in modern Western medicine and respect its ability to treat sympthoms of illness. However I also use natural and spiritual healing in conjuction with modern medicine. So if I was having a difficult pregnancy of course I would see my ObGyn, go for my ultra sounds, take my vitamins etc. But I would also use the herbs that strengthen the womb and I would also call for my guardian spirits to watch over my unborn child etc. I would meditate and journey on a higher plane to fight the more subtle causes of my own unintentional influence over my illness.
I also believe it You should also note that not so long ago, before there were doctors, we practiced this form of medicine. My grandmother could tell you which herbs to use to cure what ailments. She could tell you if rain was coming two days away or look into your eyes and know if you had been "plucked" or not. These things are not as "spooky" as we would like to imagine.
My suggestion would be, if you are sick, see a doctor and take your medicine. If you are sick and want to tackle the disease holistically, also see a witch. But still see the doctor!

Witchcraft is not a person. What does any body of knowledge or skill "do for you"? Really it does nothing of itself. Even if you use it to make your life and the lives of those around you better it's still you, and not the witchcraft that does it. Some use witchcraft with a level of skill and effectiveness that would make fairy tales seem believable - and some are so ineffective that you would be better off taking a sugar pill. There is no central authority to make sure witches are well trained but some of them -are- medical doctors as well as witches. That said; Witchcraft is not always about healing, although at times it is used it to do that, people tend to react to the offer with fear or suspicion. This is probably because a witch might do a number of things with witchcraft - the range of possible applications is pretty wide. Just as an electrician might wire a house or build an electric chair. Likewise it is the particular individual that makes the difference - not whether or not they use witchcraft to do it. If you trust the person that is what matters.
Replace the word in the question with scientists/science and then ask "what does science do for you?' or replace it with Art/Artist and ask what does "what do artists do for you?" do you see why it is too wide a scope to answer...
Some scientists might be able to help you - either through research or because they also study medicine. But they may or may not know the right thing to help you - right at the moment you need help. A quantum Physicist might also know First Aid but they may not... it is not necessarily part of his training. Just as an artist might know how to make a temporary plaster cast for your broken leg and so they might be able to help you in a pinch - but they may not have a background in sculpture - it just depends on that individual.
Witches often know quite a bit about herbs and remedies - keep in mind that most of the medicines in pharmacies originally came from herbs. For example the use of willow bark tea was commonly known to witches before aspirin was a household name. and the use of quinine (another tree bark) was a so called "witch-doctor's" remedy before the pharmaceutical firms had any clue how to treat Malaria.

Wow! So many positive answers, mostly from Pagans tho (including me). Since I am an herbalist i do a lot of treating myself, tho admittedly there are some things beyond my scope. Namely a nasty little thing called Marfan's Syndrome and Dural Ectasia. So I have to see my cardiologist twice a year. But for just about everything else, I treat myself, my husband and my cats. It is kind of distressing when I see someone indicating that doctors will tell you herbs don't work. OF COURSE THEY WOULD SAY THAT! They don't get any kickback from herbal remedies! Right now I am treating my step mothers cancer and it is in remission. Did I do it? Doubtful, it goes way beyond what I can do as a person. But with a bit of spell work it is working (thank the Goddess).

If you give it honest thought modern medicine started out as 'witchcraft'. We go to the doctor for healing and for medicine - so in that since, yes, I would go to a 'witch' for healing. A lot of 'witches' actually base their 'healing' on herbal remedies and other methods that are proven. You'll find the same concepts used in modern medicine.
Midwifes were persecuted for their knowledge, many tried as witches, when in all fairness they were only practicing advanced medicine before their time. Imagine where we would be today if not for the accusations of those who feared what they did not want to understand.

Actually a lot of witches have good knowledge of homeopathic or herbal remedies, which I am not opposed to trying if I had no other options.
I've only cast a few spells in my life, and two of them were fertility spells I cast on myself when I was trying to conceive... with good results ;-)

As a Christian, I view all "healing magic" (including the healing done by Christians 'laying on hands' and such) as being a way of channeling one's own personal energies on positive things.
It can help. I've seen it help. Regardless of whether it was from a christian, Wicca, witch, faith healer, brujah, whatever; the need is the same. Your body needs to focus on healing. The desire to heal isn't the same as focusing your energies on making yourself well.
Just as your cheers in a crowd carry more power, the combined thoughts of those around you help you to focus your own energies on attacking illness.
But (and it's a big but)
Medicine, Doctors, Hospitals, and such are thousands (MILLIONS!) of times more effective at combating illness and injury than faith is. Faith can heal, but it isn't the ONLY answer.
BTW: Herbal remedies - for the most part - are worthless. As k your doctor if you aren't sure. If there is genuine medical value to an herbal, he'll tell you.

I'm a Witch myself and my brand of witchcraft does a lot for me.
If I were seriously sick I would try to make it to a doctor, but I try to do as much for myself as possible as far as my health is concerned.

i am inclined to ask my witch friends for advice if there is a small ailment with my kids or myself. i would much rather use herbs and natural remedies before medication.
nature provides remedies for everything, if you know where to look.
that being said, if someone needs immediate medical attention, i certainly don't hesitate to get them to the nearest hospital
before present day medicine, how do you think doctors helped people? with natural medicine of course.
