People SAY they verify, but the resources they use to verify, are sources that have a very negative view of Catholicism or just post lies.
If you are going to verify, go to a CATHOLIC website.

It depends on where i'm reading it & the source of information for what i'm reading.
If it's in a national inquirer I immediately dismiss everything, but if it's CNN i'll put some thought into it. I will not assume it's immediately correct unless it's an in-depth article stating all the facts. If it's just initial reporting i keep an open mind until there's more information available. Even still, i already have a pre-destined dislike for anything catholic as i was raised catholic & it's full of B.S..... And being that i suffer from a fear of B.S. (i call it taurocoprophobia) i am naturally cynical when it comes to catholicism. (and christianity in general)

I usually accept is as true, unless its just unbelievable. I used to check out most things, til I figured most were true. The best thing I learned is not to go to a Catholic website for verification. Catholic apologist can not be trusted. They have an axe to grind, so to speak.
You are a Catholic. It will be hard for you to see the truth. You will have to get outside to get straight answers. You will not like what you find. If you ever investigate Catholicism from the outside-you will leave the church.

LOL! Love your response to Mr. Marc! The same thing happened to me; I'm a former Jehovah's Witness and became Catholic. Love the Church!
As far as your question, some will want the truth and eagerly seek it, others won't. The reasons are as varied as the imagination, especially with so many that are so anti-Catholic they simply refuse to listen to reason or common sense.
This is why we must immerse ourselves ever more deeply into our Faith, because we will never stop running into this, and we will need the strength.
Jesus told us to go forth and spread His word. It's our calling. It's why we must stay closer to Him than we do our wallet, depending on Him more and more each day.
Keep the Faith, and keep strong. God bless.

As an atheist and empiricist I trust nothing on mere say-so. Still, from a practical point of view, given the long history of the Roman church, its status as an an actual or quasi organ of government through centuries of empire, and all those millions affiliated with it, it's not that hard to find something bad to say that's true. I can't imagine what you could make up that would top just the history and scandals the church admits to, unless as in the South Park episode they really do secretly worship the Galactic Queen Spider.

Mmmm, Don't Care. Its Kind of like reading those Jack Chick Comics and Books, as well as the NEWS OF THE WORLD ( Latest edition of Lady Di being Found Alive); its all the same Rubbish.
I definitely do not assume it is true, but I do not assume its false. I have met enough of the Religious to know that some wonderful people, with sincere hearts work in the Church.
Its like any group of people, some will be bad, some will be good. Just follow the broad principle of "Trust but Verify".

I don't put much stock into what I read or hear. I look at it as all religions have their faults. Not all Catholic priests molest kids. Etc... You can't make a broad generalization about an entire group due to a few bad apples. Granted the Catholic Church has has their share, but I chalk some of that up to panic. Kind of like the B.S. Satanic Ritual Abuse scares that flare up every decade or so.

Through almost all my whole life, I have gone to verify all the negatives about Catholicism and about the church. I have found many to agree not because it was a popular thing to do but because I was able to find so many things myself.
There are false accussations of course but there are also more to which I have to cast the stone.

I do not assume it to be true, but I do try to confirm if it is true by using more than one source and not just the Catholic church as the sole source. I am well aware of mainstream media bias, even here on Yahoo there is bias against the Christian worldview. Most of the news sources used by Yahoo are liberal and have been proven to be biased against conservative and Christian worldviews. Why doesn't Yahoo use the Wallstreet Journal or FoxNews for sources for some of their news? Where are the conservative or Christian new sources on Yahoo?

So much of what the Catholic Church gets up to draws the attention of the legal system. That for me is "verification". We also have almost 2000 years of Church activity documented and commonly accepted by all. You will find that Catholics are afraid to examine history, THEY WANT FAITH, NOT FACT.
