If massacres like VATECH don't at least create some doubt in your religious beliefs, your braindead.

Its one thing to pray for a living person with a disease, it does no good of course, but people feel like they can do no harm with it. However, prayers after massacres like this amount to sheer babble or even insult.

What are you praying for...THEY ARE DEAD! Even if God did exist, do you think he ever says "wait...I just let the devil have this one but Joe, Billy, and Jackie collectively prayed that I should admitt the poor shooting victim into heaven so, ok."

It should be illegal to publically utter religious rationalizations after senseless horrors...maybe a mandatory "shut your religious babble" period of mourning.

I see us as being nothing more than highly evolved animals trying to be something different.

Hence the need for religion.

"Do not allow a witch to live."

Exodus 22:18

This wasn't out of context, this was specific. Of course, if I were to quote it and try to apply it, people would say "That's in the Old Testament, we don't follow that anymore."

The question is,

Why did people follow this 1000 years ago?
Why was it not "That's in the Old Testament, we don't follow that anymore.", and why is it now?

Many churches say that Jesus is God. But the Bible claims Jesus is the son of God. If Jesus was God who was he praying to then when on earth. God does not have to pray to anybody.

Can We Use The Positive Effect of Religion to Influence Children?

I agree with most that relgion is bunk.

The same goes with Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth fairy and such.

I have grown and learned to disregard those falsehoods, but I do see it's positive impact on society.

I really don't care what has to happen to make society a better place. I am willing to accept all answers.
My opinon is that "So what if it is false?"
If the outcome outweights the falsehoods, then why not?

Santa Claus, The Easter Bunny, The Tooth Fairy have at least given me some positive aspects about the world, instead of what it really is.

Granted, religion like everything is used for evil.
I will give you that. There is enough of that in the bible and Koran and every other religous doctrine.

Can we use the positive impact using religion to influence children to make this a better world. Even if it is false?

Why else would we cite scriptures?

It's in the hope that people will check the scriptures up in their OWN version of the Bible.

The NWT has the same message as any other translation despite what those spreading misinformation may say. They all say the same thing.

If faith is evidence of things not seen and love is unquantified likeness, can one say that love is greater than faith or that you must have faith in a person or particular thing before loving?
How can it be applied in a church? In the church they say love is the greatest thing any person can give to each other. And that you must have faith for you to receive miracles from God. In practice, how can they be used?. Thank you.

Religious devotion DOES trigger the release of endorphins in the brain. (New scientist, jan 28th 2006 subscription only)These endorphins are in fact the brain's own, naturally produced opiates.

When the masses are in mass, are they not high on the body's own opiates?

Doesn't this in itself make Marx right on this issue?

All accounts of Christ from archaeology point to a person who committed no known offenses. Free from scandal. In my opinion this further lends credence to Jesus claims. It is a point worthy of consideration. With popularity comes scrutiney, and being under the microscope. To deny His existence would be to deny truth and historical evidence. What do you think about the fact that no Jesus misdeed, or scandal records exist????

She told me that all religions are WRONG! All people are dillusional! If you want to go to heaven you must follow the 10 commandments, one of which says keep the sabath day holly...which is Saturday not Sunday.
I'm a Babtist and go to church on Sundays, and I told her that It doesn't matter what day of the week you go to church to go to heaven. Then she pointed out in the bible where it says "He who brakes one commandment, brakes all." And if you brake 10 commandments, you can't go to heaven! She said All religions are wrong except 7 day adventists.
What can I say? She wants me to convert to her religion....or is she telling me the truth?

Some Christians have been giving a purported Einstein quote. I have been totally unable to find a credible source for it. If you can help find it here is the quote.

In fact, Einstein tended to be more critical of debunkers, who seemed to lack humility or a sense of awe, than of the faithful. "The fanatical atheists," he wrote in a letter, "are like slaves who are still feeling the weight of their chains which they have thrown off after hard struggle. They are creatures who-in their grudge against traditional religion as the 'opium of the masses'--cannot hear the music of the spheres."

Personally I think it is a fake quote.

its taught in the mormon (LDS) religion that god has already planned our life for us ahead of time, and already knows how our life will be played out or lived...basicly pre-destined..

If this is true, then is HE going to be mad if you kill someone HE knows is going to be the next hitler and kill thousands? Or will your actions be justified for killing him eventhough you may have not known he was going to be the next hitler eventhough GOD does cause according to mormon religion our life is already planned out for us?

your basicly doing god a favor by saving thousands of other innocent people from the next hitler eventhough you didnt know he was going to be the next hitler in his pre-destined life.. eventhough god knew he was going to be the next hitler.
