I would like to see a Good example of Christianity. Most of What Passes for Christianity is mostly "Paulianity", and a very loose version at that.
Personally, I am not strictly an Atheist, but I am not strictly a Theist, However that may be a Question for another time.
Oddly enough I probably have more in common with Catholics than I do with standard , run of the mill, press the abuse button, "Christians".
As is noted elsewhere in this questions' set of answers "time is not a filter for truth"; Just the same as the truth of "Time heals all Wounds" is doubtful, and victims in criminal events receiving "Closure" is likely close to a great lie; Both of these Wonderful events occur because of a "Forgetting" not because of some wonderous healing. Don't get me wrong, I am glad that they occur, since the pain that some suffer is so hard to bear that anything which brings peace is a great thing; The things done in the name of religion are so insurmountably egregious that I can't fathom what length of time that would repair the damage. The religion patterned after the writings of Paul has a lot to answer for, and I would like to see it dragged before a panel one day.

How do you account for the fact that Islam has survived for over a thousand years?
Christianity survived because Rome was always willing to adopt new gods to appease the populace. They liked the Greek gods, so they adopted them. They liked aspects of Egyptian religion, so they adopted it. Asiatic Mithras appealed to the soldiers, so they adopted it officially.
When Christianity proved useful for repressing rebellions and keeping the population servile, they adopted it. When Roman Christianity encountered popular festivals and traditions among the peoples they conquered, they adopted them.
Only Judaism, Islam and Samaritanism are true Abrahamic Religions. Christianity is just a patchwork of Pagan ideas superimposed over the Old Testament.

Well, the fact that it was the law of the land in many Christian nations until just relatively recently probably had something to do with it's endurance. Much like Islam is in many Muslim countries today. Also, there are other religions that are older that are still very much alive today. Hinduism and Buddhism to name a couple.

Because most of the human population are sheep and take the easy route in anything they do. Its much easier to say "god did it" than it is to understand and accept that you just don't have the answer and need to continue to search.
Its only those that are prepared to challenge the status quo, 99% of the time they are Atheists, that change the world. They think outside the little box that religious put themselves in.
There are even older religions.

How do you account for the fact that Buddhism has survived for 2500 years? That Hinduism is 3500 years old and still going strong?
It's not surprising that Christianity has survived only 2000 years at all. It's fairly common.
So?

The Egyptian deities were worshiped for 7 thousand years. Christianity is just a little baby in comparison with that, and with Hinduism and Buddhism.

It must be pretty amazing that a 2000 year old hoax and complete fabrication is alive and well and impacts countless millions so profoundly bringing out the best in people.
I used to be an atheist and back then I think I knew deep down in places I wasnt conciously willing to admit that I knew there was a God. I just didnt want to have anything to do with him. (until I grew up and learned what life was all about)

Paganism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Judaism and a whole slew of other religions are FAR older than christianity.
Christianity sells easy answers and a get out of jail free card to anyone who will 'believe'....that alone will make it wildly popular with the weak and gullible. It also has one hell of a Multi-Level Marketing scam built in. Let's see if it can make another 500 yrs.......I doubt it.

I can't answer as to Christianity, but I can tell you with certainty that it is a miracle that Judaism has survived 2000 years of Christianity! There is no doubt whatsoever!

If your arguement is that the LONGER a religion is around and survives the more VALID it is, then I guess my pagan heritage out-trumps Christianity BIG TIME! We even influenced every single Christian holiday from Christmas to Easter.
LOL!
