What a simple thing it would be for an omnipotent deity to put a stop to the shootings that happened today.

How hard would it have been for god to give the shooter a heart attack, etc...

No doubt, some survivors will praise jesus for not being one of the fallen. And others will turn to religion because they can't make sense of the reality they have been placed into.

For Shame.

AMDG - I am not an omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent being.

If I were. I would have put a stop to that freak

blondie - If god showed he existed by stopping a massacre such as this. Physically SHOWED it without a doubt. Yes I would believe in god.

That's why it's called EVIDENCE

The VA tech incident is an unfortunate example of why I think that if God does exist, it is a deistic and apathetic God.

What's this? you are surprised that crazy people act on their impulses? WhereThe F have you been? You expect that everyone should live on Earth forever? Why does this surprise you so much? When in history did crazy people not inflict things on innocent people?

Why does everyone seem so surprised? Common sense people!

I know that you blame God for anything bad that happens, but Jesus talked about a similar thing when a tower fell on 18 people and killed them all.

Luke 13:1 Now there were some present at that time who told Jesus about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices.
2 Jesus answered, "Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans because they suffered this way?
3 I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish.
4 Or those eighteen who died when the tower in Siloam fell on them—do you think they were more guilty than all the others living in Jerusalem?
5 I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish."

These people didn't die because they were bad. Neither did the one's who got shot incur an unpardonable sin. But rather check yourself to know if you are in the faith, washed clean by Him, so that if such a terrible thing happens to you, it will be a happy ending with God.

Otherwise point that finger somewhere else. God didn't shoot them, nor did He cause the ability for us to die.

Great question!

There's not justification for the shootings. Was the shooter doing god's work for him? Were those 29-31 people meant to die? Is this all part of some master plan?

Is this some kind of way for god to prove, once again, to satan that even when he takes away someone's most precious gift (their kids) they still follow god?? Is it one of god's childish pissing contests with the devil?

There is an evil in the world, but it is not god & not the devil! Humans can be evil! They can be sick & cruel! There is no leprechaun god above to blame or a dominoes noid below.... Human filth is what i call it! Nothing more, nothing less!

People cannot have it both ways. You have free will. If you want to blame God for everything man does, then maybe you should look around - take a good, hard look at what is going on in the world today, and know this: What you see is exactly what you get when man gets to run things.

The frustration you feel is the revelation to you that man cannot run things. Man is unable to rule. Man is unable to do right.
Esspecially in this generation, people constantly yell that they want God out of everything, then when man kills man, God is blamed, and it is asked "Where is God"?

God is right there where He has always been, but not for long. Nobody is getting away with anything. Christ is to return with a rod of iron. Do you wanna take one guess what that for?? Correction.
And boy, does this world ever need some correcting.....

I am not a religious person, but even I understand that the contract monotheists supposedly hold with their creator does not work that way. God said, "I'll leave you guys alone. You do whatever you want, and if you behave well without even knowing whether or not I exist, I'll reward you." The agreement does not include being shielded from tragedy, either natural or man-made. God didn't make it happen, and God didn't let it happen. People are free. People did it to other people. Don't put your damage on God, and try to call religious people stupid for having faith even after bad things happen. That's just petty.

Why does God have to be to blame everytime something goes wrong, but rarely praised when something goes right? He gives us all free will to choose what direction we will take in life, He doesn't block all of the "bad" things from happening all the time if that is what you are asking. If He did, would you believe He exists and would you love Him for all He has done?

Let me say that I am horrified at the shootings today. But to answer your question I have to take you back to the beginning. God created a perfect world where there was no sin, pain, heartache or even death. But because of the sin of Adam the world was no longer perfect. There is a void between us and God. We are no longer in perfect fellowship with God. But God rescued us from sin and death by sending His one and only Son to die for our sins and take the penalty of death for us. And Christ had victory over death and gives us the promise that if we believe in him we will spend eternity with him.
I too wish that there was not all this junk in the world. I wish my daughter did not have CP. But we all have free will to make our own choices. SOme choose to follow God and others choose to turn away from him. We all make bad choices and suffer the consequenses of those choices. And unfortuneatly they end up affecting others. I hate that those college kids and faculty had to die in this horrific way. I wish the world was perfect....But one day it will be when Christ comes to take all those who believe in him to heaven. Choose this day who you will follow. I pray it will be the Lord Jesus Christ. Blessings.

Perhaps as we spend most of our time asking God to stay out of our lives and putting him to the back that he has taken the hint and not hung around where he is not wanted. Also, if there wasn't a God we would have nobody to blame when things go wrong and then we would have to deal with the actions of our own heartless and insane society.

Looks like they only time you question God is when something bad happens...but what about all the good things that happen around the world..have you ever THANKED God for those??? or do you think people do the good things...

In His love for us, God gave us a little something called free will. It gives us the right to love Him or deny Him. It also gives us the right to submit ourselves to the world we live in. And in so doing, many people are submitting themselves to evil things such as murder, rape and other violence.

It breaks God's heart that those people were killed today. God has every means necessary to step in, but He doesn't, because this world belongs to the Evil One, because humans have invited him in.

if you are not aware.....we are of the world and people live in the world and god gave us "free will". it is tragic as to what happened but to blame God for this incident.. .was it right to crucify a man that was innocent. no. unfortunate things happen to good people. that is because we live in a world full of sin and hatred from our own choosing. and by blaspheming God as others have in previous comments are not helping mankind.
