(If so, why do Christian fundamentalists ask from homosexuals to 'change' themselves and pretend to be straight?)

A few school teachers (among many religious schoolteachers) are the most outspoken spokesmen for atheists. Is this an example of half-baked incomplete intellectualism claiming to be absolute truth ?

Doesn't Jesus want me to look good when I enter his Daddy's house? Shouldn't the government understand that as a justifyable tax credit?

i read a book a long time ago that stated the Greek gods were not meant to be worshipped, but they represented different aspects about humans, and all the legends about them were meant as lessons to humans about how to live their lives and understand why humans do the things we do. yet after time the teachings fell by the wayside and people just began to blindly worship, instead of actually working on their lives and understanding each other.

has anyone ever read that book or heard similar views? what have you heard?

If someone proved to you that it was mandated by God in the Bible to be gay...would you turn from your heterosexual marriage, and find a homosexual partner...

Would you be able to change your God-given sexual orientation?

For example: I'm not Catholic, but I'm very impressed by the people that practice lent. I remember one of my friends in school gave up candy for 40 days - I thought that was a pretty amazing feat of self-discipline for her faith.

is it possible the rapture already happened and we didn't even realize it. i've been told by a friend that some of the writing in scripture is symbolic in referring to countries where the use of animals that are symbolic a particular country are used, i.e. eagle for u.s. so i've derived from this that the rapture has already occured. "how?" you ask. well, as my christian brothers and sisters pointed out to me revelations speaks of his return in the following way:
"BEHOLD, HE IS COMING WITH THE CLOUDS, and every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him; and all the tribes of the earth will mourn over Him."
it goes on to say that he will bring with him an army of horses.
many have theorized this glorious even would take place at or near the turn of the millenium. i'm going on record to say and i'm gonna be the first to say it, i know this already happened. i got two words for you 1997 superbowl. you're probably asking how this ties to revelations. (con't.)

They speak with such authority as if they have the "inside track"...However, God is the only ultimate authority on scripture.

Furthermore, we have schooled theologians who have studied the original texts, and knows the customs and traditions of the days...and they still do not agree on many interpretations of scriptures.

So, why does the average Joe on this site think he has the right to go and judge others, condemn others and pretend to have all of the answers.and throw around scriptures...isn't that an abomination?

How many people have these fundies...turned away from God, with their narrow minded, hateful rhetoric and viewpoints? Will they not answer for leading people down the wrong path?

Okay, so I have a running dialogue w/ God in my head all the time...So one night before sleeping, I was saying that when I passed on I wanted to be in God's Army fighting evil, becoming an archangel (isn't that what they do).. I always had that desire for when I died to be in God's Army. Well, that night.. I had a very bad dream in which the devil made an appearance.. He and I were fighting in my dream.. I hard a hard time waking from that dream.. At the end of the dream, the devil "beat" me this time in the fight we were having.. He hovered over me and said, "stay out of things you don't know about" while smirking and went away... then I woke up.

There has been much talk about Don Imus. Some of those who defend him say, "Well, he raised alot of money for children who need it." or "He has that camp for children."
My question is this
Do these deeds allow him to use words like 'ho' or 'nappy headed' or calling an award winning jounalist a 'quota hire' or any of the several things he has said?
Does his good deeds allow him to be able to say racist and sexist remarks.

Why threaten people like that. It does not make us feel welcome or are you some how better than us? Its in you book to turn the other check. I got no problem slaping you in yours. Same people who condon violance in Iraq and forget about the Genocide happening in africa. You guys are rich.

KLOVE radio is running their telethon today, and are raising money for building churches in China.

My wife thinks any extra money should go to feeding the hungry and helping the homeless.

My girlfriend thinks church building is the most important thing you can do, and teaching the gospel of Jesus Christ is the only thing that our mission should be.

What say you? I'm screwed either way here. Literally and figuratively.

For eample, do you categorize all Christians as the same? All atheists? All Muslims? Or do you just not "like" certain people of some category, and think, like anyone of any race or group, that some are good, while some give that group a bad name?

On the other hand, do you just hate/despise certain groups for the actions or words of what only a some or a few in that group do?

Say why or why not?

of late i have noticed growing intolerance of "christians" as regard to muslim women wearing veils and whatnot.i'd like to make it clear that many christian & jewish women cover too, myself included in that, but with growing horror i have noticed that in uk they are trying to ban this & that in france and turkey, they already have in places of education.can people not see that women are not forced to cover but that they chose to cover?a veil is a tesimoney to our beliefs, a form protection & a way of saying that they love their husbands & keep themselves only for him.i have heard people argue that these women are being liberated from a life of submission and ignorance but truely how can they liberated if they cannot be educated veiled?i know apart of the problem is the terrorist attacks & people afraid of muslims attacking them but a veiled women is a testimoney to their beliefs and violence is not apart of muslim beliefs, but i will people in uk & france attack me too for veiling?

There are paintings of people before Jesus I wonder why there is not one of him? The Bible does not really say what he looked like. I would believe he looked more Middle Eastern instead of looking more white as what many pictures have him looking like.

I just asked this in law & ethics, but I would like an R&S take on it, too.

So they canned Imus. Okay, on one level, I don't care. I've never liked the guy, found him offensive, unpleasant, and annoying. I haven't even heard his show in years.

But here's the thing: for some reason, a large portion of the American populace likes hearing what this guy has to say. Isn't it censorship to deny them the right to hear his opinion based on the fact that he said offensive things? Yes, he owed specifically those women and generally all women and African Americans an apology. I personally think he should be "censored," but not by being banned from the airwaves. the way to censor people like that is to stop listening to them.

Is this any better than banning sex education or non-school led prayer in school? At what point do we have to admit that being offended is a part of living in a society where people are free to voice their opinions?
