They speak with such authority as if they have the "inside track"...However, God is the only ultimate authority on scripture.

Furthermore, we have schooled theologians who have studied the original texts, and knows the customs and traditions of the days...and they still do not agree on many interpretations of scriptures.

So, why does the average Joe on this site think he has the right to go and judge others, condemn others and pretend to have all of the answers.and throw around scriptures...isn't that an abomination?

How many people have these fundies...turned away from God, with their narrow minded, hateful rhetoric and viewpoints? Will they not answer for leading people down the wrong path?

You know what?
I cannot quote scripture, but I have it in my heart in MY words.
And it gives me peace, joy, and happiness--KNOWING GOd is watching my back.

He loves you, too---so much.
The Bible says that.

Well, first I disagree and think probably Paul is the only ultimate authority since he wrote most of it. But yes the original texts are difficult to read, not to mention the editing by the church and the discarding of "non-inspired" texts.

But yes thats the problem with religion. As another questioner pointed out it apparently makes you opinionated.

So it turns everyone into an expert, even just average Joe.

But unfortunately Christianity suffers from being a huge religion. Since the religion itself doesnt call for you to question your leaders and question your beliefs on a regular basis, it attracts a lot of blind followers, sheep if you will. Then when you have a huge percentage of the world calling themselves "christian" what you end up with is a lot of people who aren't xtian at all just saying it frequently.

They've apparently never read the bible. never read the scriptures. or if they did, they only read it to point and see how it mattered to YOU not to them. Like people who watch those medical shows so they can diagnose all their friends. Yes it's an abomination and if you believe in the bible you will see if under Pharasees and Paul's letters to the church (Corinthians).

Fundies should be very worried in fact. God said in their bible that those who had heard of the word and twisted it into false religions would be judged the hardest. God said it was the duty to spread his word, not banish people from it. Yes the god they claim to believe in probably won't allow them into heaven, but instead reserve a ring in hell just for them. However, as I said--they can't see their own attitude b/c they are looking to harshly at ours. Impossible to see the forest for all the trees.

Yes they will answer for it but when you are prancing around screaming you are right at the top of your lungs, you can't possibly hear anything anyone else says. Most hate-based organizations can't imagine being wrong. The KKK, AL-Queda, Fundamentalist--of course they believe they are right and they believe it so loudly you won't be able to convince them differently until judgement is passed. You might as well give up the cause. They are the lil monkey--too blind to see evil and too deaf to hear evil. If only they could master the speaking no evil part perhaps they could be redeemed.

We are given "authority" to qoute and use scripture in teaching and discussion..

"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:" 2 Timothy 3:16

If someone asks a question that has a Biblical answer, we are simply providing the scriptural answers, we are not judging or condemning anyone, that is God's right. But based on the scripture above, we can use other scriptures for "instruction" (teaching), reproof (proving a point) and correction.

The idea that "the average Joe" cannot possibly understand the Scriptures and therefore cannot quote them with authority is the same idea that led the Catholic church to torture and burn those who translated the Bible into common language.

You are correct, God is the only authority on Scripture, but He has given it to us as a guide and expects us to use it.

Matter of fact, I think that it is rather pathetic!

I was taught that a person should "read, mark, learn and INWARDLY DIGEST" the scriptures.

I always interpreted that to mean that a person should be able to EXPLAIN, EXPAND and EXPOUND.

Not merely REGURGITATE!

They're only trying to justify their points. But hell, I can't stand it when some people post novels and biographies here.
