If there really is this "God" fellow as many suppose there is then isn't his existence independent of my belief?

I exist whether or not you believe I do. (Well, the existence of existence itself is debatable)

So why would my belief matter so long as I am not screwing up the machine?

I am writing a paper, and it is a half serious half comedy about mythological creatures, but from the stand point that they are true. Any ideas for a quote to end it with?

*asked this on myth. and folklore but hardly anyone is on there... thought I would try it here*

if you read my last question, my 9yr old daugher would like to invite her JW friend (a boy) to her Bday party. somebody mentioned that JW's don't celebrate Bdays because it was originally a pagan custom. so, if his parents find out that she comes from a pagan family, will he still be allowed to play with her?

This is a legitimate question and I am curious. Please tell me what do you have to look forward to? What do you think becomes of a person after their death?

Where, specifically, in the Gospel does Jesus mention the Trinity?

How could Jesus possibly have omitted to mention something of such extraordinary importance?

If redemption through the blood of Christ, that one member of the Trinity, is all that is necessary for salvation, how are we to explain the many, many occasions in the Gospel that Jesus details the necessity of submitting directly to the One God -- without ever mentioning the role of his (Jesus') redeeming blood?

Think carefully before answering because this is not a joke.

I am currently co-authoring a book about rituals that help people cope with loss and grief. I am curious if anyone here has found strength or comfort in any type of grieving ritual.

(You don't have to belong to any specific religion to answer this)

By ritual I mean, some people visit the graves of their loved ones on the same day every year. Others might ask their priest to mention their loved ones in a special mass every year. Some people might put up an ancestral altar in the home with pictures of their loved ones in rememberence. Those sorts of things.

I can find no passages in the bible that state we have free will. Are there any? Where can they be found?

Meanwhile, I have found passages that say that lives are already planned out. Ephesians 1:4-6, Ephesians 2:4-10, Romans 8:28-30.

Which is it? Free will or god's plan? It can't be both. Unless there is a mention of free will in the bible, wouldn't you have to assume it's predestination and/or god's will that really rules your lives?

It baffles me every time when i think about this. When school teachers gather to set examination questions, or the education ministry of any country, appoints a group to set questions for a major examination, the question papers get vetted numerous times by various people. Only after confirmation that the question papers are absolutely error free, they are sent for printing. Why so much of precaution? Because, the question papers seal the fate of the lives of numerous students and there is no margin for error. Another reason, the name of the institution who sets the paper is also at stake and its name cannot be tarnished because of errors in the question papers.
Now, if Humans can take so much precaution, how about God ? Why are there contradictions and errors in the Bible, which is supposed to be the guiding light of Christians? Ar'nt he supposed to Ensure that it is absolutely error free? We are not talking about fiction here, but God's Word. It does'nt make any sense at all .

And why aren't any of the multitude of pious Jews who lived prior to Christ canonized? For example, Elijah and Elisha, who performed incredible miracles by the power of God.

A second question for Catholics: do you think God draws similar distinctions? Or is the requirement that a "saint" must have been a Gentile Christian something the Catholic Church decided upon? Why is this practice not considered anti-Semitic?

I'm not trying to pick a fight, but this just seems wrong to me.

He is a weirdo, a pedeoifile, was abused, and ended up mentally ill. That is exactly what that cult will do to you, and I feel sorry for him. My brother is just like him, accept the doesn't mess with little children. It is sad what the cult and its tyrant elders will do to a person.

They try to dictate your life. They told my sister how to dress her step-daughter. They are poor and can't really afford nice things for her. Her hair is usually braided with naps hanging out but how is that any of their business? Are they going to pay to have her hair permed or styled? My sister changed congregations just to avoid more critisim. Also, one of the witnesses caught my mother out with a non-witness man, just at a store and told on her to the elders. They called her in the meeting room and counciled her about it. They are so controling, that is what you call a cult.
