Is it possible to be a good Christian while not living with other people in peace and concord, but on the contrary, maintaining hatred, envy, and malice towards others, instigating quarrels, brawls, and distress among others?

The verse in james refers to faith in action. It's one thing to believe that a tightrope walker can carry two hundred pounds on his back across a divide with no net. It's another thing to let him carry you across. Good deeds do not get you salvation. But, if you accept salvation (by accepting Jesus died for all our sins) then through your relationship with Christ you will have the desire to make good decisions and do good deeds.

It's possible to be a Christian and lie, cheat, etc. But it's not possible to be a *good* Christian like that. To be Christian is to, ideally, be Christ-like and as such we should remember who we're representing.

I think that most people live their life based on what they believe in. If they believe in being intolerant, they will live that way.
