It is true that Jehovah's Witnesses are not loved by everyone.
http://jw-media.org/newsroom/human_rights.htm
Some people hate Jehovah's Witnesses out of ignorance, or over some misunderstanding. A few may have had a bad personal experience with an individual who claimed to be a Jehovah's Witness, and prejudicially extended their animus to this entire Christian religion.

However, it seems that the majority of anti-Witness hatred is motivated by religious intolerance and bigotry. A few may even be motivated against their Christian worship by the unseen 'god of this system of things', Satan the Devil.

(2 Corinthians 4:4) the god of this system of things has blinded the minds of the unbelievers

Interestingly, such "hatred" should be expected by true Christians in this time of the end, and it actually helps identify Jehovah's Witnesses as Christ's true disciples:

(John 15:19) If you were part of the world, the world would be fond of what is its own. Now because you are no part of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, on this account the world hates you.

(Luke 6:22) Happy are you whenever men hate you, and whenever they exclude you and reproach you and cast out your name as wicked for the sake of the Son of man.

(1 Peter 4:4) Because you do not continue running with them in this course to the same low sink of debauchery, they are puzzled and go on speaking abusively of you.

(2 Timothy 4:3-5) For there will be a period of time when they will not put up with the healthful teaching, but, in accord with their own desires, they will accumulate teachers for themselves to have their ears tickled; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, whereas they will be turned aside to false stories. You, though, keep your senses in all things, suffer evil, do the work of an evangelizer, fully accomplish your ministry.

It seems signficant that the relatively small religion of Jehovah's Witnesses are the ones best known for their worldwide preaching work. Yet Jesus commanded that ALL who would call themselves "Christian" perform this public work:

(Matthew 28:19,20) Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded you. And, look! I am with you all the days until the conclusion of the system of things.

I have nothing against anyone of another religion, or non-religion. I just may not agree with their doctrines. We are all human and should love our neighbor. If someone has enough love for me as a neighbor and feels that they have found the truth of the bible. Then I feel honored that they want to share it with me. Of course, it does not mean I will agree with them, that is my choice.

As one of Jehovah's Witnesses it is not an insult for people to say we are the ones they think of first as knocking on their door. Because this is what Jesus commanded us to do. Who else is preaching about the "good news of the kingdom"? Jesus said this would be done, and "then the end would come." So it is important, it is good news, but also a warning work. But that is your choice to listen or not, to agree or not.

If you truly do not want any witnesses coming to your door, then the next time one comes, let them know to put your address on a do not call list. Typically, we do not work the same territory but every six months. The only reason they would go back to your house is if you were not at home, or didn't answer the door. But for every ten that don't want us at their door, there is one that does.

We are not there to convert, but to share a bible message.

They are unpopular because their doctrines are unorthodox.
Unpopular religions are merely evidence that they are closer to truth than the more popular ones. The average person doesn't like to be told they aren't a christian unless...
People enjoy feeling free to experiment with what is considered 'sinful' existence, by most of Christianity and also be allowed easy forgiveness when guilt sets in.
Catholicism is very popular because of this effect. While the shunning of sin within the two mentioned religions tends to limit a persons fun.
Also, these religions tend to appear uninvited and actually speak of their beliefs and attempt conversions even when the odds of success are very low. People have decided they are intrusive when society prefers the 'mind your own business' mentality.

that is the trouble with people, they know nothing about us as Jehovah Witnesses. one woman because her husband was disfellowshipped goes around telling lies about us. we are not a cult or brainwashed. we are a real religion. a cult worships man and live together. we live in 236 lands and live in our own homes. visit a kingdom hall and find out what we are all about. many ask stupid questions why the kingdom halls don't have windows that we are hiding something. the doors are all open and everyone is invite to come in. my kingdom hall does have windows. some don't because it may be in a bad neighborhood and people will break them. we don't pass around a plate like churches do and the more they give the more churches want. we do have a box in the back and give what we can. we go door to door because Jesus Christ commanded us at Matthew 28 verse 19 and 20. on April 2 we will be celebrating all around the world Jesus death. www.watchtower.org. we do not push our religion on anyone and if you are sleeping at nine thirty or ten, just tell us that you are busy and we should come back later. we follow the bible. we pray for people who are blinded by the devil to wake up before it is to late.

I personally have nothing against someone researching faiths and deciding to be a polite/nonviolent member. I figure Jehovah gives us free will for a reason.

Honestly I think many who have beefs with Witnesses do because of what so and so said or because they read that we such and such.

There are some who acctually know our beliefs and do not feel we are right.

There are also those who have issues against most anyone/anything.

I have a peeve against them in that they feel the need to force upon others that their way is the ONLY way. I also disagree wtih too many of their beliefs to be listed here individually. Then again, I am Druid.

They pervert the Bible by adding their own theology to it. The JW's believe you can't get to heaven if you engage in materialistic endeavours (ie... wearing clothes that are anything less than conservative, having a nice house or car, or simply by becoming famous), they further believe the world will end at a predestined time (they have predicted the end over 20 times and haven't been right yet) and they believe you shouldn't celebrate in holiday (including Christmas and Easter) or birthdays because they use "pagan" traditions. Mormons, contend Jesus visited earth even during a period they call "ancient America" and that Joseph Smith was given a vision in the 1800's as to what God instructs us to do. So they believe in levels of heaven, having multiple wives, etc... both religions only use the Bible in limited ways and have developed their own writings which go against Bible teaching.

How interesting that the majority of answerers don't personally dislike these people at all, even if they get weary of their proseylitizing methods. I don't dislike them either - in fact, I like some of the regulars here so much, I keep praying for them. It's not them, personally, who are the problem.

The truly offensive nature of those two religions lies in the dictates and power of their leaders. Joseph Smith and his co-leaders have devised the most blatantly un-Christian religion, yet have managed to con most people into thinking they are bona fide Christians. A series of Watch Tower Society leaders have proudly stressed the huge gulf between them and orthodox Christianity (so, full marks for honesty there) yet still manage to snare the unwary into joining what they would call the ONLY truly Christian religion in the world! May God have mercy on us, and the adherents so fooled.

I have nothing against them. I do however, do not like it when people decide they have the right to make me listen to their religious views. I cannot remember how many times my house was "visited" by people wanting to preach to us. Most times they would leave when we told them we were not interested. A couple of times, they would get angry and tell us how they were right and we were wrong and that eternal damnation awaited us.

Just to note, these were not always Jehovah Witnesses or Mormons, there were plenty of Babtist groups in there as well.

JWs - Not much accept a few of them have woken me up on Saturday mornings while I was trying to sleep off a mean hangover.

Mormons - Allot, I used to live in SLC and experienced shunning first hand, watched their children isolate and ridicule my 1st grader, Listened to my boss call me a 'heathen' everyday at work and then watch as he pilfered money from non-mormons and felt justified doing so.
