If I resign my post as ambassador to the Christians? I've had it!
There is no possibility of constructive diplomatic engagement with them.

Needless to say this is partly humourous but only partly. I really thought it might be possible to improve the atmosphere here but I don't think it can.

Awww....Geoffrey, my ambassador has been Jesus all along anyway. He is the gateway to God. Thanks anyway, though.

Sounds like some bad experiences. I quit working a Help Desk position for the same general reason (among others). However, I'll point out to our esteemed Spartan King that an individual resigning a post is not the same as withdrawing the position from the embassy. (Of course, if there is no ambassador replacement, one might draw this conclusion!)
Sounds like mental fatigue; personally, I see an ambassador in this realm to be much like being a referee. You become the target for everything; often both sides blame you for everything. And, as ambassadors speak for a group and not themselves, I figure it isn't so much fun being an ambassador. I'm here to have fun! I hope you'll have more fun not being an ambassador!

Unfortunately, this goes with the territory. The atheists won't care, and the zealots will have won! There should be a voice of reason in the middle. As long as you were consistent in helping the extremes meet somewhere in the middle , you have done your job well. Get on with your life and stop asking others for permission.

You were doomed. The real Christians needed no ambassador. They leave us all in the dirt, going past tolerance to unconditional love for their fellow man. The bulk (on Y!A; I don't want to generalize to the population) are just wannabes who take the attitude that they are special, and that they have automatic forgiveness so they may act without consequence.

Who needs constructive diplomatic engagement- as long as they're taking an intellectual pounding it's all good.

If they are not willing to work with you, then don't worry about it. Just get on with your life and forget about them. It sounds like you were just wasting your time with people who didn't even try to work things out.

But you're such a great ambassador! I completely understand you wanting to resign...it's a fruitless battle. Thanks for a job well done!

Of course you can't change it.You are frustrated with someone who doesn't share your worldview.

It's difficult at best, the negativity burns me out too, so have compassion for yourself and only do what you can, when you can do it.

if we withdraw our ambassador, isn't that an act of war?
