Whats your favourite idea/ways to get out of conversations, social gatherings, excuses for parties and the like?

To ask to be seated at a different table or to ask to be moved to a different table. I like children but so many of them are so undisiplined I can't stand the noise and disord while I am hoping to enjoy a pleasant meal.

We own a family run mom and pop type business (pawn shop)...I feel bad when customers ask to use the bathroom, but it's just not practical, they may trip and it's near the safe, and customers pawns ...How can I tell people politely they can't use our toilet.??

Thanks

I went to dinner with a close friend and an acquaintance of hers. Normally this girl is not someone I see or particularly care for but I always go out of my way to be polite when I see her. We ordered dinner and drinks and we each had a beer. After a few minutes this girl's beer slips from her hand and spills all over my lap, my seat, and my new leather handbag. I didn't act annoyed; it was an accident, but understandly I was fuming inside that my brand new bag was ruined. All she said was a careless "sorry"; she didn't even offer to help me clean up let alone replace my bag. My friend didn't even say anything and rolled her eyes like a was making a huge deal when I went to clean myself and my seat up... everything was sopping wet. Again it was an accident but I'm annoyed with both of them for their rude behavior. If I had spilt something I would have offered to clean for whoever I spilled my drink on. Do I have the right to be somewhat angry?

Not saying this happens a lot but it does happen to me. I can be very nice to a female and she responds mean to me and calls me creepy. I can act a little socially awkward when I first meet someone. It's more or less a shy thing. Do you feel that a person has the right to call another person creepy for being awkward, different, older or even unattractive? Keep in mind, I never show any disrespect and I'm well natured. Should I respond to a woman that calls me creepy with, "Well you're mean... and.. and.. and fat!" Probably not, but it wouldn't be any different than how they treated me. Most nice women can't understand their behavior either and see nothing wrong with how I act or my appearance.

Yesterday after a snowfall I noticed my neighbor snow blowing his drive and then a little bit later he was doing mine. I am friendly with him and his wife but we are not 'friends' per se. I am a single mother of three and we do not have a snow blower. The weekend before when it snowed apx 8" my son, daughter and I all got out and shoveled half of my drive - enough so that I could get in and out of my garage. I am very thankful that he came over and snow blowed my drive as I hate shoveling and we dont have a snow blower. I also am the only single person on my street and I think the only one w/out a snowblower... my question is what should I do to show my appreciation. I was thinking of sending over a card with $10 in it to say thanks and the money as a way of helping with the cost of gas as I know he didnt do it as a way to earn money. Is that appropriate?

Instead of giving their opinion, writing a personal response, or giving you a recommendation that you asked for, they paste reams of text from other websites in the hope you won't notice and give them best answer?

If you wanted the wikipedia article you'd go there.

Some employers when they ring up I get a bad vibe from. Is it ok to turn these down? Even though I may be penalised for not accepting a job interview from my employment agency?

This has not happened yet. However some jobs they offer me make me feel hugely uncomfortable.

The way I figure it, why go for a job interview with an employer you do not feel comfortable with. I will only not do well in the interview and not get the job.

I have had some great jobs with great employers, however get a vibe from some which are not good.

I mean, why should people be expected to conform to some unwritten standard instead of being themselves for fear of offending someone's sensibilites? I can see how we shouldn't do some things for concern of others, like not being disgusting to people at dinner because it could put them off their appetite, but what freaking difference does it make if someone is wearing pajamas in public (some of the responses to that question are quite sad)? It is not hurting anyone and you do not know their circumstances - what if that is all they have to wear? And what if someone is making a scene in a store or restaruant? Again, you do not know the person - perhaps they were having a very rough day, perhaps they have autism, perhaps they have OCD and become upset if their rituals are disturbed? Why must we be soooo judgemental??
