Whats your favourite idea/ways to get out of conversations, social gatherings, excuses for parties and the like?

Genrally " I'm sorry I am unable to come" or "I am unable to speak with you right now" does it.
Don't have to offer any excuses , just say something like "gee I'm sorry I can't make it then."
It's not good however to isolate yourself and become a recluse.
We all need human interaction if not daily at least regularly.
Accept a few invitations that are less intimidating to you, you might find you'll enjoy yourself more than you know .
Talk to people on the phone , just so that you know you're ok and they know you're ok.

I agree with Lizzy, there is no need to form an excuse like sickness or having to work, or previous engagement.
"I am not going to make it" is all anyone needs to say.

Sickness always works. Usually I just say that I'm busy, and if they ask what I'm doing, I think of something quick. Usually it's homework or a project or something.

Something as simple as "I've got other plans". When you make up excuses, it can be hard to keep the white lies straight!
