It means that they don't want flowers sent, right? I am so used to sending flowers to funerals that it seems kind of weird. Kind of like when you get an invite to a party, and they say, no gifts please...and then you wonder if they really want them. I don't know, should I just make a donation???

future are not respected near as much if at all. I know doctors are great and do help us alot but so do the teachers and day care providers just as much but in a different way. Does it have to do with the education they have or the money the doctors make? If so that is just not right to respect someone just becasue of their money they have.

I have a habit of visiting freinds and family regulary on the weekends, and I usually stay over night. I never took notice before, but what is a nice time to go to bed early, without being rude to my family and freinds?

We are having a housewarming party and we have told people no gifts. But I know that some of our family and friends won't listen and will bring gifts anyway. The question is, when do you open the gifts? Do you open them while they are there, or just open afterward and send a thank you card?

My parents will be married for 30 years soon and my sisters and I are trying to plan a surprise celebration for them. We are thinking about just having a party and inviting fam and friends. However, my parents really do need stuff! Their towels are like cardboard, the sheets on my mom's bed are vintage 70's and all of her measuring spoons have melted handles because 10 years ago I left them too close to a burner!! We would love to register for them but it seems rather tacky. A friend suggested throwing my mom an anniversary shower. I'm confused. I really don't want to do something tacky so I"m looking for suggestions. Thanks so much in advance.

They are my daughter's classmates, but they don't really socialize together outside of school. Usually, the gift for the Bar or Bat Mitzvah of a classmate (i.e., not a good friend) is meant to cover the cost of the guest's attendance at the party. Since there's only one party here, do we need to give a double gift? It is quite a lot of money.

An "out of area" caller calls our house everyday, at least 2 times a day, And when we pick it up they hang up on us. This has been going on for a couple of months. One time I answered and said nothing, then it was a guy who said hello three times. We don't want to change our #. Is their anyway to find out who this person is? Or can we put a stop to this?

I have a co-worker who recently transferred into our office. She talks nonstop, is loud, and abnoxious. She's seriously overweight and has offensive body odor at times. She comes to work early in the morning covered in cat hair (from her 5 indoor cats), and with dirt under her nails. It's difficult to even say hello to her, because she turns it into a full length conversation. So what is my problem? Her daughter is coming to visit from out of state. She is having a "meet and greet" my daughter party in her home. She will be serving a light dinner and drinks. I don't particularly care for this woman, but I know she has no friends, she has expressed that she is very lonely here and her only invitations are to co-workers. I think she is probably a good person, and I feel sorry for her, and I would feel bad if no one goes. But I could never eat anything in her home because I know she is unclean. Nor could I tolerate a full evening with her. Any suggestions???

Bridal fairs are usually for women are'nt they? I kind feel I would be more part of things if I wore a blouse or high heels, somethiing like that, because you don't see many men in these shows. I guess I feel mens suits are too formal. We have a stand there but its just me running our stand this time, no help from the girls. I would love to try but would feel nervous! Should I do it, or am I gonna freak people out?

Today, while at the gas station, I was downwind of a woman who was wearing probably the STRONGEST perfume I've smelled in my life! Heck, it was even overpowering the smell of the gasoline! Not only that, but it was probably the WORST-smelling perfume I've ever smelled as well. :(

As soon as I got a whiff, I started coughing. I have mild asthma, so maybe I'm more sensitive than the "average" person. However, I truly think ANYONE would have coughed if they got a good whiff of this, because it was so strong AND so foul!! The woman actually looked at me, probably wondering if I had tuburculosis or something, the way I was coughing. *wry chuckle*

When she looked at me, I almost said something to her, in a very NICE way, about her perfume. I would not have said it smells bad, because that's a matter of (gross) preference. But I sooo wanted to simply tell her that it was wayyyy too strong for public use. However, I chickened out. :(

Do you think it's ever OK to tell someone this?

I can't stand it when people block the doorway having their discussions, so I just bowled over them as though they were pins. I did turn around to say, "Excuse me," but I thinks the damage was already done. They gave some pretty evil looks.

The bf & I are just about to finalize our first house purchase and some of my colleagues and friends have already started asking us when the house warming is.

a few questions:

1) Is it customary for guests to bring gifts?
2) If so, what kind of gifts are we expected to receive?
3) if they ask us what we would like as a gift, how much should they be expected to spend?
4) if they ask us what do we need, how big of an item can we ask for? or can we just ask for money/gift cards so we can buy what we need?
5) How much alcohol should we have on hand, especially when it comes to colleagues (including the boss)

Thanks

There's a potluck in a couple hours for everyone living in San Diego that's going to the same college in LA. None of my friends can really go...and it's really awkward meeting new people for me, especially when I'm alone. I know I should probably go though, to practice my social skills lol. I don't know...should I go even though I'll be a total loner?

They mispronounce our names…
Make smart remarks when not provoked…
Constantly talk over and interrupt…
Assume we all have children…

I do not want to hear how you FEEL about this question…
I want an answer from the subject and victims.

Thanks!

I recall while I was in college, my professor was from outside the US and noted on how in America, how unconnected we are with each other. We stare straight ahead, afraid to even say hello to one another.

There was a time in America where people knew each other in the community. People knew and were friends with their neighbors. Why do you think in 2007 people have grown more distant from one another?

I thought that was a stupid question...am I being too sensitive?

My supervisor is taking us all out to lunch and then a play. From there we all head home for early day. She’s assumed we will all be driving ourselves and I definitely don’t. I live less than 2 minutes from my job LITERALLY. Well one of my coworkers “Jamie” is asking our supervisor for a company van. Everyone is annoyed because no one wants to ride the company. But out of kindness our supervisor takes a vote and wouldn’t you know it: only one person wants to take the company van, Jamie! So Jamie tells our supervisor not to worry about it she will ride with someone. Why?! She has a freakin car like the rest of us driving ourselves!! So of course she ask me because I live 2 minutes from the job so it will be easier for me to take her there and back. I thought it fell on a school night so I told her I couldn’t because of school and then she points out to me that it doesn’t fall on a school night. So I told her I would take her. I’m so mad and I still don’t want to take her!

I went to a restaurant the other night and the bill came to 45.76, 20% would have been around $9. I left $13. She was a really good server and was friendly. I am a server and I know its rough, however my boyfriend thinks I tip WAY to much. He leaves 15 to 20% and have left up to 50%.

My son is 12. By established child holy writ, kids say "going on" and then the age-to-be.

I'm 38, with my birthday next week. Am I supposed to be saying "38, going on 39"?
