I've never thought of that ... I wouldn't buy him booze. He may actually prefer a burger or a sandwhich from the local gas station. If I give someone (a bum) money, they can do whatever they wish to do with it.

I wouldn't give a bum booze or money. I would get him a nice hot meal.

If you give them money, they will buy booze (or drugs), if you give them booze, they will have booze. You are simply cutting out the middleman. In either case you are helping to perpetuate their condition and are not helping them at all.

The only thing I will give them is food. Most of the time they refuse it. I don't think your giving them booze or money will alleviate the homeless problem in this country.
Ever notice how many of them always have enough money for cigarettes and lotto tickets?

I like Stan P's answer. I have had people ask for money in front of the local Shell gas/fast food place. I offer to take them inside and let them get a sandwich. Only one ever took me up on it.

excuse me we don't call people bums. We call them homeless people. That would be insensitive and might make them feel bad about their addiction issues.
Oh and to answer your question yes go ahead and buy him some booze

I was at a Jaycee convention in Memphis TN years ago and walking to the convention center, a homeless guy started to give me a sob story about how his car broke down, blah, blah, blah.
We were 20 feet from the front door of the only package store in the area and I asked him if he wanted some gin or not.
Shocked at my candor, he said that he didn't want to waste the money on something as expensive as gin, and he asked me to get him some cheap Thunderbird, which I did.
I went on to my convention, and he went to visit his special spot where he felt no pain.

first of all learn to spell
unappropriate is not a word
secondly bum's as you call them are homeless people that people in society like you have abandoned
why not take him to your home and give him a shower, a feed and a bed for the night
then if you want, give him a bottle of claytons and a blanket and drop him to a shelter
