My son is 4 and drives me nuts sometimes! Does the concept of looking for something not start until older than 4? Like his shoes. If i tell him to go find his shoes, he willl stand in one place and look in one direction, then say he cant find them. If i tell him to look everywhere, he will look in another direction, then say he cant find them. Its like this with anything i ask him to get or find. How do i teach him to look for something, or is it a lost cause?

My 2 1/2 year old is an only child. She plays by herself at preschool no problem. But when she's at home, she doesn't play alone for more than five minutes before she starts coming over to me trying to get me to play with her. I like playing with her, but I think she needs to learn to play alone, even if it's 15 minutes at a time. Any ideas?

Hi. I have a 3 year old son. I signed him up for swim lessons last week. We went 2 times and both times he cried (hysterically) the entire time. He loves the pool and is a good swimmer for his age - so it's not because a fear of the water. He's on the shy side and it may be because he's not comfortable with the instructor (who is very nice and very patient with him).
He has a class scheduled for this afternoon and has been crying about it all day. Do you force him to go or just forget it? I feel torn - because when he's there - he's so upset he's not learning anything and if I just don't bring him anymore I feel like he sort of "won" this battle and don't want him to think he could "cry" his way out of things he doesn't want to do.
I should also add that my son is pretty much a good kid - he doesn't have tantrums, is not a whiner and is pretty much well behaved, and has never cried his way out of anything before.
Thank you :)

My daughter is about to turn 1 and i am trying to get her use to cows milk (she has been on soy since birth). At lunch today i put some cows milk in a sippy cup for her to try and she would take one sip and thats it. I keep trying to give it to her and she would push it away. What can I do?? I dont want to keep her on formula forever. I have heard about mixing half formula and half cows milk. Is that ok to try with soy formula and cows milk. I am a first time parent and have no clue what to do.

We have tried everything to get him to drink from them but always seems to point to the bottle. And usually we give in and that's how he gets his milk, juice or water. Does anyone have any other suggestions on how to make this work?
Also, is giving him the bottle in bed a bad thing? That's how he usually has his night time bottle and been so use to it so far. Should he be broken of this habit before too much longer.

My son is almost two years old. We live in central Florida and it's pretty hot so I only take him to play in the mornings and evenings during summer for about 1 hour to two hours a day. Sometimes more or less depending on what we have to do. Is that enough? When weather cools we will be outside more.
I never questioned myself until a neighbor whos daughter is 9 told me I don't take my son outside to play enough! Her daughter plays outside after school and I don't let my son play that time of day because its too hot and no shade around my home that time of day. I realize 9 and 2 years are a big age diffrence for outside play time and maybe I just took it too much to heart what my neighbor said. Just trying to be the best Mom I can.

Yesterday my son had diarrhea all day long (4 times)..was eatting, drinking and acting normal. This morning he woke up with a messy diaper and shortly after breakfast he was back to the diarrhea. I haven't changed anything in his meals...he has no other symptoms. When should I really start getting concerned? Could this be related to his molars coming in? His lower left one is already through but now the lower right and upper right are starting to poke through. Any suggestions

My 4 year old was taken care of by Grandma alot when he was growing up ( I was on bed rest for two pregnancies). If he wanted something or didnt want something, he would wine and start to cry and then he would start itching his legs (exzima). So we would go and pick him up and do whatever we could to calm him down so he wouldnt itch hinself until he bled. Well now he is older and I dont think it is ok for him to wine. If he starts to itch when he doesnt get what he wants, i just put him in the corner and tell him that if he wants to throw a fit he can do it by himself. That helped alot with that. But now he wines even more than before. He wines if he cant get his shoes on,if someone has his toy, if grandma is taking too long to get his food ready (that gets too me, but she thinks its cute). How do I teach him to use words to let me know when he needs help? My parents raised me to think it is not ok to cry, I dont want to do that to him, but when he starts school he will get picked on.

my 20 year old daughter always talks but never listens. As a father I wish to give her good future and better education. I suggest her good reading habits, making good friends, mingling with others, good eating habits and expect her to work hard in her studies and also work for alround knowledge. but she doesn't hear me much. she is somewhat tensed personality due to which she develops health problems like gastritis requiring hospitalisation. i regret i am not able to guide her well to my satisfaction so that she could gain good knowledge and excel in life in future

My daughter is pretty tall for her age, compared to a lot of kids her age. She only weighs around 27lbs. Is this OK. She's my first and a lot of the kids at her daycare are pretty stout so I was just wondering. Plus, she's a finnicky eater. Thanks.

I have a 3 1/2 year old old son who has been potty trained since he was about 1 1/2. Recently though he has been coming in and has either wet or poo'd himself. Obviously we have talked to him and said he'll be going back into nappies if he doesn't stop. Its as if he doesn't want to miss out on anything and would rather just go in his pants. Anyone else had similar troubles or ideas on how to sort this???
