you know its on the i'd say high range of normal. children are expected to know so much now aa days and her being 2nd child is learning more quicker. I'd say she is probably typical. I have 3 chuildren and each time they amaze me at how much they knew sooner than the one before. I have a 5 year old and the things he has to do at school I dint do until much older grades like speak in fort of the whole class and lead then in prayer .

Your daughter sounds like she may be advanced for her age since she knows some things that your 5 year old does not. I watch a 2 year old boy, and he only knows the word "no", although he understands what things are and can follow directions. Intelligence at this age is based on many factors, and the fact that your 2 year old has an older sibling to impersonate and learn from may be a reason why she is so smart. Whatever the reason, enjoy your kiddos! It sounds like you are very proud, and that's the best kind of parent to be! :)

2 year olds are very smart.......but alot of people get tricked because of how 2-3 y/o mimic everthing they here. My son (who just turned three) will say "Daddy, this food is absolutely delicious, thank you" He has no idea what delicious means, he just heard my wife say it to me a few times during meals, (minus the daddy part) and now he repeats it.... That isn't to say that he isn't smart, it's just thats how they learn.... He can also count to 10 in spanish......but if you ask him what "uno" means he has no idea, he's just repeating what Dora says when she says lets count to 10.....Again this doesn't mean he isn't smart, it just means he isn't as smart as it would seem on the surface.
Comprehension is the main component to intelligance. I could could "spam" all sorts of scientific lingo I heard on TLC, that doesn't me I'm a rocket scientist (and I obviously can't spell either lol)
So more to the point, YES we all wish are children were little Einsteins but the truth of the matter is they are probably not and just repeating things they have heard when the circumstances match :) Now if your 2 y/o does actually comprehend what she is say/doing the Congrats your baby is super smart, but more than likely she is just repeating things she has heard from either you, or TV, or whatever :)

My daughter is two and she speaks well too. Some her age don't but I do know that even if they're smarter than other kids more often then not the other kids will catch up. She counts on her fingers up to 5, knows red, blue, pink, black, and green, and trys her ABC's. I think it has a lot to do with having an older brother and sister too.

Most kids can say a few words and phrases by their 2nd birthday. Then by their 3rd birthday, they can turn into motormouths. There's a LOT of speech development/improvement from age 2-3.
Your daughter sounds pretty normal, especially if she's close to her 3rd birhtday.

My daughter is just like yours. My sister didn't believe that my 2 yr old was saying whole sentences & making sense. She kept her & when she brought her home she was shocked. She said that her 2 daughters never talked like that when they were 2 yrs old. My daughter knows all the ABC's, #'s, Colors, Shapes, Animals....among other things. Sounds like your daughter is very smart also.

Both of my daughter spoke fluently before the age of 2. And also knew their colors, shapes, ABC's and could recite their favorite parts of Disney movies.
Every child learns at their own rate, I would not ever compare your kids to one another, mine are as different as night and day and I love them for that.

I have a two year old who I think is pretty smart too, he speaks in sentences and remembers obscure people's names and things associated with them. He remembers all characters from his favorite shows(i don't let him watch too much) and he asks questions constantly...and he just turned 2 acouple weeks ago!
Anyway I read this article and it was helpful! Hope it helps you out as well!

everyone thinks their child is smart, and I think your child sounds right on par! My son can count upto 10, which my first child couldn't. Every child is different and there is no set rule on smartness at this age.
