It could be due to his teeth coming in. When babies get new teeth, for some reason their stomachs produce more acid, and this often causes diarhea. Make sure you treat his bottom at every changing so he doesn't get a bad rash. Also give him lots of extra fluids, but try to cut down on juices and acidic foods just in case the excess acid is the problem.
This happened to my son when he got 4 teeth at once, and this is the explanation the doctor gave me. If it continues for more than 3 days total, see a doctor anyhow.

chances are its a virus. Just make sure he drinks plenty of water...avoid sugary drinks or sports drinks (they'll make it worse).
Bananas and rice will help if his system goes on like this for a while. But most virus take a few days to run its course.
Check for temperature...if it spikes or goes over 101, give him tylenol, motrin or call your doctor.
If it lasts real long or he stops eating or is generally cranky, call doctor.
Most the time, its not caused by teething.

It very well could be the teething. The runs are common while teething, my son got them with his two bottom teeth. My doctor said they dont know why it happens, but it does. As long as theres no fever and he's acting normal done worry about it.
Keep him hydrated and well fed, it will pass. If he goes more than 4 days with the runs every time he poops he should see the doctor.

Anytime there is diarrhea, there is fluid loss. Give him pedialite right away. Make sure he stays hydrated and give it 24 hours, if the diarrhea persists, call his pediatrician. It can be from his molars, but it doesn't usually persist if that is the case.

Give him macaroni and cheese. The pasta and cheese both will help stop the diarrhea. Also, no juice, that contributes to it. Give it a day or so, if it doesn't stop, take him to the Dr.
