My son is 4 and drives me nuts sometimes! Does the concept of looking for something not start until older than 4? Like his shoes. If i tell him to go find his shoes, he willl stand in one place and look in one direction, then say he cant find them. If i tell him to look everywhere, he will look in another direction, then say he cant find them. Its like this with anything i ask him to get or find. How do i teach him to look for something, or is it a lost cause?

lol.... I think its a universal problem - my son is six now, and literally his shoe can be RIGHT NEXT TO HIM, his foot will even be touching it, and he still can't find it no matter how much I tell him! All three of my kids (2 boys and a girl) are like this, although I will say my daughter is catching on fast and is much better at it than the boys. He'll catch on, my 6 year old son is slowly catching on but its still a struggle. Good luck!

My son does the same (he is also 4) and I say go get your shoes - I don't know where they are he says. So I "suggest" somewhere that he can look, and he argues no they aren't - and 90% of the time they are where I suggest. I am pretty sure it is just a game with him - I think he enjoys me trying to figure out where he might have left his shoes (or stuff).

firstly ask him to keepm his belongings in place so that it will be easy for him to find out . predefine places for his belongings every time after he uses it show him the place to put it back personally this will be stressful for few days but once he memorises that you can easily ask him to get it i think he will be able to do it in a better way whenever you ask him to get a particular thing be precise and specific to direct him so as to avoid his confusion hope this could help you upto a certain extent.

You need to teach him what unprepared means. No shoes? That pavement will be hot/cold and those rocks will be sharp. Take him to lunch at McDonalds in just his underwear/pajamas.
