Hi my daughter is 13 months old and still wakes up at least twice a night. I have heard of the "sleep lady shuffle" but don't know what it is about. I have tried controlled crying but all that happens when I do this is that everyone in the house yells at me and makes me out to be the bad parent.
I was wondering if anyone had tried the SLS if it had worked for them and is it controlled crying? I have to order the book from America so I don't want to waste money on something I've already tried. Your help on this would be greatly appreciated, thanks from a very tired mum

My 5 year old nephew does not talk (he talks gibberish, but can say yes, no, mom). The doctors that he has been taken to do not think it is autism, but they offer no other explanation. He is very loving and can interact with other kids. Sometimes he seems to be in another world, but other times he is very interactive. It's basically the no talking thing that has us concerned...anyone else with a child of these symptoms? What do you think?

My 15 month old daughter and 29 month old son have been going to the same daycare for about 1 1/2 years. I haven't had any issues with them. It is a private at home daycare where they do lots of activities and are now learning sign language and I feel they are learning so much. Only, three weeks ago the biting has started. The first week my son was bit twice by the same little boy and then the next week my daughter was bit on the neck. I sat down with the daycare lady and told her that she needed to speak with the family because I don't send my kids to get beat up at daycare. She said she spoke with them. Friday I picked them up and my son and daughter both had bite marks. Do I take them out or do I talk to her again. I like where they go although I could send them somewhere else for and save 80.00 a week, but I don't because she is so good with them? Any ideas? Has anyone been through kids biting at daycare? Can I call the mother???

My son is 2 1/2 years old. My daughter was relatively "easy" potty training. She basically picked it up on her own. ;) Lucky me i know...!!!
However, my son will go when I put him on the potty... but won't let me know if he has to go. I tried just putting him in underwear all day and putting him on the toilet every like 15 min. and he would go, but he never would let me know he had too. Is there any "tricks" that you moms/dads used? Do you think its a difference between a boy/girl? I've heard that it is... but just wanted to see what other peoples opinions were.

Thanks!

Her one year molars are coming in. She refuses to eat, cries constantly because of pain. I've tried alternating Tylenol and Motrin, along with baby Orajel and teething tablets. She's miserable. What else can I do to ease her discomfort? She hates teethers.

First, she never let go my hand, now she plays with her toys most of the day. While I am cooking or eating or watching tv, she is playing with her toys and exploring around the house. She would come to me occassionally with a book so I can read it to her, or just smile at me while playing far away. Is this healthy? I mean, will she develop fine? I hope i am not ignoring her or something. :-( We do have playdates every tuesday and go out for walks everyday as well. Why am i freaking out.......help.

My 13 month-old boy is having high fever 1 week after the Chicken Pox injection. He is so warm all over his body, forehead, ears, neck, even his cheeks are red. I feel like tearing apart when i hear his screaming and crying. I wish i can take the fever away from him and cast it on myself.

Have you ever felt like this before?

My 2 1/2 year old son was a thumb sucker since birth. Recently, it has become an issue in our house -- mostly because of certain social pressure telling us he's too old. Honestly, I don't really mind, as it does soothe him. I have limited it to nap and bedtime, however, but am not sure about the need to cut it out completely. My son is a very energetic guy, and I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up being a stunt artist, hockey player or Navy Seal! I think the thumb sucking helps him wind down. Someone suggested introducing a pacifier, but wouldn't I just have to break that habit as well? Are there health issues associated with this? Is there reason to concern ourself with his tooth develpment at this time? Of course, we won't allow him to suck his thumb forever -- is there any harm in his toddler years? Our firstborn had a similar temperament, and sucked her thumb unitl age 4, until we started schooling her. What are your thoughts / experience / tips and advice?

Or she gets up over and over. Her Mom and Dad recently seperated but bedtime has always been an issue. Any suggestions for my daughter to help make bedtime easier and pleasant instead of a fight? She also has an month old son so can't always "snuggle" to get the three year old to settle. Last night I sat outside the 3 year olds door and read. She settled right away and only asked once if I was there. Any ideas would be appreciated loads.

so, this is the second time I've caught my 6 year old girl fooling around with the neighbors 6 year old girl. they closed the door and where topless laying in bed together.

should I punish my girl for that? this is the second time. first time, 2 months ago, I talked about it with her, and seperated them for 1 month.

the neighbors kid seems to instigate it, my child just follows.

I don't want to make her feel bad for exploring, but I wish she would realize the acts she does, might not be right. I want her to only do this with people that respect her. the neighbors kid does not respect anyone it seems like.

I need pointers and would like answers from actual parents.

In a appartment/hotel room unsupervised? I wouldnt. I have never let my children out of my sight. I just couldnt relax knowing that my child was alone in a room. I feel desparately sorry for the family and hope their little girl is OK but I just cannot understand why she was left alone in the first place. Surely if you left a child alone at home whilst you nipped out for 10 minutes you would be in big trouble, so why do it on holiday?

My daughter will be 3 in October, at her daycare her teachers say that she does not even ask, she just goes in and uses the potty and has no trouble, however at home she will not go. She goes in her pull ups. I have tried taking her every hour, but usually she will not go on the potty but waits a few minutes and they goes in her pants again. Why would she feel more comfortable at day care than here? I am not hard on her about it or anything, I am not trying to push her, I want her to be ready on her own. Any ideas?
