Called our in laws a few days ago and one of their grand kids was visiting.

They passed her to both my husband and me to talk to her.
Needless to say, neither of us could understand what she was saying.
We couldn't really find anything to talk to her about.
Is this common? What are things you can say, to a baby you know nothing about?

Now that the kid is older, is he/she disabled or not? Was his/her brain damaged at birth? My baby was born with apgar 0, they resusciated him in 5 minutes. He is 3 weeks now and I am freaked out he will be disabled or something because his brain was without oxygen for nobody know how long. Not that I would love him any less if it turned out he is going to have some problems later, I would just like to know other people experiences. Thanks!

My 2.5 yr old son has had a headcold for about a week. It started last friday, he had a fever that night, but since that broke he's been in good spirits during the day, but he wakes up at night crying and screaming. We assume these are nightmares. There's nothing new happening around him. No extra stress. He hasn't been eating anything out of the ordinary at bedtime. I'm wondering is this just a stage? Did your kids have nightmares? Not sure what to do. Losing a lot of sleep nighttime. He's fine when we are with him, but I don't want him sleeping with us nighttime and we don't want him used to someone sleeping with him either.
What to do what to do!!!

I have tried time outs, taking things away, and even spanking. He thinks the spankings are funny. No matter which way I choose, he just does it again and again. One good example is he will walk past his 2 year old sister (who is minding her own business) and slam her in the floor, causing her to cry. He is otherwise a normal little boy. He is also very smart for his age...maybe he is bored and trying to get attention? He is also the only boy out of 4 kids. Maybe all the estrogen is making him crazy...LOL. Please if there is anyone who can give me some sound advice and save me from certain insanity I will be eternally grateful.

This is the same kid i babysit for from my other question. I tell her when she gets to my house " if you have to go potty let me know and ill take to to the bathroom. Her mom is my sister in law and the 2 yr old sees me as her sister. She knows she isnt suppose to go in her diaper becuase everytime she does shell hide somwhere were i cant see her and go. and knowing shes went in her diaper ill ask her if she went in it and she lies to me. she is big for her size, (not fat) but shes 2 and shes wearing pull ups ,you know for bigger kids who actually got to the potty but have accidents.... i just dont know what to do shes punished when she goes in her diaper but it doesnt seem to have an effect...
(and in reply to my other queestion when she gets to pitching a fit i sit her on the couch like time out and shell get right back down and watch cartoon and get her toys and tells me no and hold on sticks her tongue out. im so close to not babysitting her and more she gets mad and me and claws

That has most of the story. But now there is more.

After the talk I had with her, things are going downhill.
Now she wakes me up in the morning while she is making him breakfast. She doesn't understand that he doesn't need to talk while he eats.
I'm also being woken up when she is getting him dressed, because she is insisting on him learning to dress himself. One day she just handed him his shirt and said "Can you put this on yourself honey?" and then let him struggle with it for 10 minutes before he got it on! Then (if I hadn't been laying awake this would have woken me) she started clapping and being obnoxious about it.
The same with his pants and socks. And she isn't even helping him- whenever he starts getting frusterated even just a little, she takes his hands and does it for him, with his hands. How will he learn ANYTHING that way? He won't.
(More in edits since this runs out of characters to use)

My other moderators think we should start charging a fee to cover crafts and goods bags for parties. What do you all think? Usually members don't pitch in what they are supposed to so I think this may alleviate most of that. Would you all join a group that charged a fee????

I have been moving from place to place and we were changing his day care often. he was a very active child till he was 32-33 months. then he became very quiet and now he is very shy and doesn't like speaking to anyone. His father ,my husband has a travel job so he visits us during the week end. Is it anything that we as his parents did that turned him like that or is it Phase which will pass. I am very concerned.
