My daughter was difficult to potty train also. She faught us tooth and nail over it. She would literally fill up her diaper to the point of leaking, and still never tell us about it. It didn't matter whether it was just a pee diaper or not. We tried to start potty training her around 2 years old and nothing seemed to work with us too. My family was pressuring us that something was wrong with her, while the doctor said kids train in their own time. One day after her 4th birthday, she woke up and started to use the potty. Overnight she went from needed diapers to not needing any protection (even at night). I say praise the child with love and attention when she goes in the potty, but don't pressure her into it. She will only rebel and make things harder. When she is ready to use the potty she will.

How can you punish a child for not using the potty? More over praise is better then giving candy or gifts as they may grow to expect them every time they use the potty. Are you sure the child doesnt have a medical issue which is delaying her potty training? Some kids do not have the muscle control and believe it or not some also can not feel when they have to go. Have her checked to make sure there are no underlying medical issues and why put her on the adult potty give her a kids potty chair or put a childs potty seat {7 dollars at walmart} attached to the regular seat so the child cant fall in, maybe she's scared!

You need to lay off a little bit and not put so much pressure on her. Encourage her to use her potty a few times a day. If she does have a bm in her pull ups, have her watch as you put it into the potty and let her flush it, and say "that's where poo poo goes, in the potty". Do not overreact to accidents, and do not punish her for not using the potty. You really are just making the whole thing a little too scary for her.
Oh, and of course, reward her when she does go- but not with candy or parties. Give her a hug, a high five, and tell her how proud you are. Then move on.
If you ease up on the whole thing a bit, she'll be much more willing to give it a try, and once she does that, she'll be quick to train. Good luck.

My son was nearly 3 when we decided to potty train him. I bought him underwear in all his favorite characters and on a Saturday morning, we put him in underwear and we began. He had accidents throughout the weekend but on Monday when he went to daycare, he didn't have any accidents. By the third night, he didn't even want to wear pull-ups to bed. He wasn't perfect but accidents were minimal. It took a while for him to have a BM in the toilet but persistence paid off. After only 3 months he was a pro. No accidents, not even at night. He has regressed a bit a couple of times but it has always involved times where life changing events were occurring, such as moving to a new state. The most important thing to remember is that it doesn't happen overnight, it can be messy, and to always focus on the positive but talk about the negative as positively as possible.

Never punish for not going to the potty. I would suggest starting with a potty chair that she is bigger than so there is no fear of falling in OR have her sit backwards on the potty so that she can hold on better. When they sit backward on the seat, their legs naturally spead farther apart giving them a more stable base than sitting forward. They do usually have to completely lose their bottoms to do it this way though...but typically, they want to strip down during potty training anyway. That is what I did with my daughter and my son (because it make his "aim" better ;o)

my daughter was 2 and a half when i started potty training her
she picked it up in a week or so (i think its easier for them if there a little older)
but anyways i drew a big colourfull picture of a toilet, stuck it on the toilet door and she got to put a sticker in each square every time she used the potty... worked perfectly
