She needs to just stop giving it to him. It seems that that your childs mother is more attached to the breastfeeding. A child of 3 is too old for it and nutritionally no longer needs it. If this continues it could cause emotional problems for the child. You need to talk to your wife/girlfriend and let her know that it is no longer needed and not a good idea to continue nursing. Cut the apron strings already. He is not a baby anymore, he is a growing child that needs to be independent and learn how to fall asleep on his own and does not need to nurse anymore!!! I breastfed both my kids for their first year and am an advocate of breastfeeding. But nursing a 3 yr old is not right and kind of weird.

Well, just wondering, is it just you who wants the kid to stop? Or is it both you and his mom? If the mom isn't ready to quit breastfeeding, and the boy isn't ready to stop, then there is nothing that YOU can do. I know it sounds crazy to most people "a three year old breastfeeding" but it's a normalcy in other countries and is of no harm to him. Will have no long-term effects. But I won't get into that.
Assuming BOTH you and the boy's mom agree that he should stop breastfeeding, then it's something he and his mom will have to work on together. Right now, considering his age, it may be a source of comfort for him, and that will need to be phased out. Children of this age who still breastfeed think that "mommy is warm and her milk tastes yummy" which is very soothing to them. Try other methods of comforting. Read to him before he goes to sleep, let him have some warm milk or hot chocolate, sing to him. These types of things will soon take over his need for mommy's breast. Just remember it will have to be phased out. It's not something he can just stop doing. It's not something his mom should just decide to take from him one day. Ask her to phase out the feeding.
When he wants fed, tell him "lets do something different tonight, tonight let's read a book and let mommy sleep" or any other method you two can do together, or he and his mommy can do together. Every so often she can feed him, but maybe every other night, and slowly move it to every two nights, every three nights.. etc. And the mother's body will supply milk for as long and as much as the child needs it or feeds, so eventually, when he stops, she will stop producing.
Good luck!

The same way you would break a child from drinking from a bottle. You offer them a sippie cup with milk or water in it but say no when they ask to be breast fed. They may cry and make a fuss, but if you are firm and consistent the habit will be broke in a few days to a week. I would get them a special cup that is just theirs and tell them that is for the big boy. Now that he is a big boy he gets to drink from the special cup. Make it seem like this is a reward. Keep reminding him on what a good big boy he is. Compliment him every time he drinks from the special cup. Wow, what a big boy you are. Daddy is so proud of you, or mommy is so proud of her big boy.

Your wife has to be the one to put a stop to it. I don't believe a child should be breastfeeding at this age. Experts say that breastfeeding after one year of age has no real benefits, and there are other ways for moms to bond with their child once they are done breastfeeding. My son was on a feeding tube due to being born almost 3 months early so I had to pump breast milk for him and I could never get him to latch on right, even with the help of a lactation consultant and an occupational therapist. My son is now 2 1/2 and he is a complete mama's boy. We bonded tightly even though he was never "Breastfed"

There are many benefits to breastfeeding long past 1 year. He won't be nursing when he goes to college, so what is the big deal? Your not the one nursing the baby....it's mom. If mom wants to continue, she will. You can NOT make a child nurse so she is not doing your daughter any wrong by letting her nurse.

Yea you gotta put a stop to it. Its gonna make her prom date a little uncomfortable mom shows up to feed her dinner.
Honestly, my little one was cut off at 14 months and he threw a fit for about 3 weeks several times a day. Its almost like it was another tooth comming in. You just have to understand that crying isnt always a bad thing, most of the time its them training you to do what they want.

Your dentist is inaccurate. you do no longer ought to wean at age 3 through fact of injury to her tooth. many human beings assume that through fact it fairly is actual of milk in bottles or sippies, that it fairly is actual for breastfeeding too. Breastmilk does not sell a similar boost of bacteria that motives caries. additionally, the biggest danger to tooth is milk or juice in a bottle that the toddler consists of around all day or falls asleep with - it does not artwork that way with nursing. you need to prepare reliable oral wellness, brush her tooth many times, and don't depart her latched on all evening long. yet nursing at evening itself does not injury tooth.

I believe you need to consider your own feelings here. It does not seem that you have discussed this with your wife, nor does it seem that you have your wife's or your child's best interests in mind. There is nothing wrong with your child to still be breastfeeding. When your child is emotionally ready they will wean.

unless the mother says no..then this is going to continue. I will say that there is nothing wrong woth it. It is a bonding issue he gets comfort form his mom this way. Only in America do we turn our noses to this. Other countries all over the world breast feed kids are as old or older than your child. This tie will break, but you cannot be the one to do it. The mum has to.
