This is our second child - our first is 7 years old and she spoke very , very early - and has kept talking ever since... Our 13 month old has a number of sounds that she makes - including both consonant and vowel sounds, but her recognizable word vocabulary is small.. ma ma, da da, thank you ( or what sounds like it), bye bye . It almost sounds as if she has a language all her own because she repaets things to us.
I can't remember at what age a child starts developing more solid word sounds - and I have also heard that a second child can speak later - theory being that the first child " talks" for them.

I practice and repeat words with her, and know that she understands the concepts about the language behind the words- she plays peek a boo- and waves goodbye when you say the words. So the concept and language development is there, just not the speech.

At what age should she say more? And does anyone have fun activities to help with langauge development at this age?

I'm in the process of opening a child care learning center. I'm looking for ideas about how to get kids in. Such as what specials should I advertise?

ie: 1 week free or 15% off 1st month.

Is there any other ideas anyone can give me?

Thanks

He's allergic to eggs and nuts, and we are a vegetarian family. He hates cheese, milk, formula, soymilk and beans, he even hates pudding and chocolate milk. The only proteins I get get him to eat are soy yogurt and romano cheese(not even parmisan). Any suggestions on how I can get him to drink milk or eat dairy?
How do I know that he's getting enough protein and calcium?

Hi, I'm researching a feature on handling toddler tantrums. I am looking at other ways we can say 'no!' to our kids without actually using that word. I'd love to hear any tips from real mums. Also, how do you stop yourself from saying 'no' in the heat of the moment?

This place is clean with a nice atmosphere and suited for young children: 0-5 yrs old. Parents can meet with friends while their kids are occupied. What do you think?

We at least now eat at the dinner table since their birth, instead of tv trays in the living room, but it just seems that they don't actually eat, they play around doing everything from poking the other twin with a utensil, putting their food from the plate onto the table, yelling, tapping the table with their utensils, etc. Dinner is not enjoyable for me and my husband just gets aggravated. I also feel I have to rush to eat, just to end the chaos. Any suggestions?

I don't make her take a nap on the weekends but sometimes she gets tired from playing as she's a very active little girl. She still sleeps about 9 or 10 hours at night and will mostly just take an hour nap. I don't see a problem with this, so why do some of my friends with children look at me in horror when I say she still naps?

to hire someone to potty train my child? My family says he's getting too old to be in diapers (nearly 3). I want to put him in daycare, but it will be cheaper if I have him trained already !! He needs to be around other children to learn socialization skills, and get a kickstart on his education !! It's why I want to enroll him!

My son is 12 months old and he absolutely refuses to sleep in his crib. He has slept in bed with me for 6 months. He will sleep in his pack and play for naps or at bedtime, but will NOT sleep in his crib.

I let him fall asleep and I carry him to his bed and within 20 minutes he's up and screaming, throwing up, etc.

Will a daycare take him?

Our daughter will soon be 3 1/2 years old. She has been peeing in the potty for 6 months but no matter what we do or bribe her with, we cannot get her to do a BM in the toilet or potty. She even goes so far as to ask for a pull-up when she has to go. We normally wear panties on her almost exclusively, but she will hold it until she gets constipated and we have to give her a pull-up to relieve her. We try putting her on the toilet when we know she has to go, but she just sits there and does nothing. Any ideas?

i don't usually use pull-ups except for at night. i was taught that plastic panties are more effective during potty training. i have a lot of errands to run with my daughter who is currently potty training. should i use plastic panties or pull-ups to run these errands? will it create confusion with her whole potty training concept if i use pull-ups? please let me know your advice. i greatly appreciate it!

My niece is 17 months old and still breastfeeding, she would not eat anything but breast milk when her mom is there, but when the mom goes to work she would eat regular baby food with her dad. Any advise on how to make her eat and make stop breadfeeding?

My daughter is 2 and a half and she usally goes through different fazes of movies that she likes to watch, she went from disney movies to super hero movies ( spider-man, superman, supergirl, hulk ext. ) to dancing movies. Now she has a thing for horror movies, mostly Jason and Freddy movies, as soon as I come home from work she pulls the DVD'S out of the rack so I can put them on for her. I really don't like putting them on for her but if I don't she starts to cry and it makes me feel really bad, I explain to her that their only movies and she doesn't seem to be afraid when shes watching the movies and on most of the bad scenes I cover her eyes. Now recently i've noticed that shes tossing and turning and sometimes whining while shes sleeping. What can I do to make her forget about these movies and to get back to watching sesame street and barbie ? And is their anything I can do to get her to sleep peacefully again ?
