It is really best to teach your children the correct names of their body parts so that in the future there will be no confusion if there is every any inappropriate activity (God forbid). What if your son tells his teacher, "Sarah touched my 'bird'?" The situation would be handled much better if he said, "Sarah touched my penis." It is sad that we have to think of these things, but it is important that you do not confuse your child about his body. It is a penis, call it a penis!

i don't love lovable names both, yet at the same time i don't love utilising the note penis, no longer because i'm embarrassed yet because it sounds so formal and extremely proper. i'd probably purely ever say it if i become seeing a GP, lol. And, i do not truly like retaining dick or c.o.ok.infront of my son, so i'd probably say willy. I informed my son at a fragile age that it become noted as penis, so he's conscious what the proper time period is, similar as the different words - vagina, testicles and so on. i'd probably say balls instead of testicles although, for an similar reason as above. it is no longer that i stumble on it shameful or embarrassing to assert the proper words, it is purely how i have been presented up, and the position i have been presented up in, we use rather some slang words.

I hate when people use silly names for genitalia. It's called a penis and there is nothing wrong with teaching him the right name for it. I do not understand why people want to shield their children from knowing the proper names of their body parts. Do you call his hand a hoohah or his foot a bam bam? Probably not. Seriously consider calling it a penis and leave it at that. By teaching him a silly name you are teaching him that it's silly or something that he should be ashamed of.

Well my two boys called them 'wee-wees' but the had us in hysterics as they got older making up other bizarre names.
For example;
Sunny d's
Conkers
Cats & dogs
Boswellox (!)
Goolies
master chief (Halo game)
bits & bobs

I can't remember what else, but like many people who have answered, Penis is the best as then at least you know what they're on about!!

We have two boys and we've always used the word penis. Also when I've talked to them about stranger stuff I've told them no one should ever touch their private parts and then I explain that would be their penis and bum. I always heard that the correct names should be used. Good Luck!!

How about just calling it what it is, and sparing the child the ordeal of having to break the habit of using baby talk later on in life.

We didnt teach a fake name to our son, we used the actual name. Just call it what it is.

Give your son a break and call it a penis. Baby words and baby talk only are cute to frivolous adults and adults too embarrassed or too ignorant to use the real word.

My mom called mine "birdy". And at 11 yrs old told me that the stork brought me to their home. I turned out fine...LOL! I was embarrassed when I did find out that babies come out of the vagina. Gosh Mom! She could of sparred me the embarrassment.
My belief on this is to call them by the real names which I have done to both my sons. My youngest calls his chamomile (mimis) but I call it chamomile and he knows chamomile is his mimis.
Hope this helped your decision on the name.
