Our daughter will soon be 3 1/2 years old. She has been peeing in the potty for 6 months but no matter what we do or bribe her with, we cannot get her to do a BM in the toilet or potty. She even goes so far as to ask for a pull-up when she has to go. We normally wear panties on her almost exclusively, but she will hold it until she gets constipated and we have to give her a pull-up to relieve her. We try putting her on the toilet when we know she has to go, but she just sits there and does nothing. Any ideas?

When she does the BM in her pullups, do you put it in the toilet, and show her thats where this goes also?? I had to do that with my son, who wouldn't go BM in the toilet either. We showed him, this is where this goes also. We also bought him a present and wrapped it up for him. We put it in the living room, and told him once you do this all the time you can have this special gift. Well, it took no time at all for him to want to see what special present he had waiting for him. After he successfully did the #2 on the toilet, 3 times in a row, he received his special present.
This is what worked for us. Hope it might work for you too! Good Luck!

If she's had one hard painful BM, kids her age will hold it until they're ready to bust because they're afraid of it always hurting. Try this: run her a warm bath with 2 ounces of baking soda in the tub. Give her some tub toys and let her play in the tub for up to 30 minutes. The warm water, combined with the baking soda, will help her relax and go. (If she goes in the tub, it's not a big deal, that's why there's bleach!) Once she realizes it won't always hurt her to go, she might start using the potty regularly. I've told this trick to moms of stubborn 2 year olds, and they call me back and tell me the kid doesn't even need the full 30 minutes - they often get out and go on their own. (Try offering some kind of special treat as an added incentive for her to get out of the tub and go to the potty.)

This is exactly what happend with my daughter at the same age. I don't know if it's a fear or what but at that age, tell her to get her own pull-up and put it on herself. Trust me, she is capable and it wont last too much longer.
