Toddler & Preschooler - November 2006

My 16 month old still sleeps in her crib (which is convertable, so I can change it to a toddler bed). She just recently started to walk, and she hasn't figured out how to climb things yet. I know there isn't a magical number or anything, but when do you know when your child is ready for a toddler bed?

Looking for footed pajamas in size 4-5T for a boy and a matching M/L one for dad who is 5'11" / size 12 shoes. Any idea where I can buy this? Please don't guess - answer only if you're pretty sure of what you're talking about. Links would be helpful. Thanks

Hi there. My son is 14 1/2 months old. He is crazy! He moves the kitchen chairs out, climbs on them, and then climbs on the table. We go to playgroup and he gets up on their tables and runs around like a wild moneky man. All of the other kids listen to their parents and play quietly. Today we had to leave playgroup early because he wouldn't stop climbing into kitchen cabinets. (The house that we went to wasn't baby-proofed yet.)

He knows no means no, but when I say no he laughs and runs the other way when I try to catch him. I think 1 is way to young to spank. I just tell him "no" over and over and over again. Is there a better way to do it?

He's 3 yrs old.
The problem is when I don't give him a nap whenever we leave the house after 3:00 pm he passes out in the car and then he goes to bed at like 11:00pm.
I try giving him naps at normal times like 1:00 or 2:00 but it is so hard to put him down it sometimes takes me an hour to put him down, it's quite nerve racking.
When he doesn't nap it's so easy, he falls asleep like 8:30 and sleeps for like 12 hours! I love it, but I hate hwen he falls asleep at around 4:00pm or 5:00pm, at 6:00pm one time!
What do I do

My 4yr old daughter is being abused by her Stepfather. She has told me and her counselor that this is happening. My daughter has been questioned twice by CPS and has not said anything that makes them feel that anything is going on. We have pictures of bruises and we have contacted the police and they have seen the bruises. Yet nothing is done. She is terrified of her stepfather but still she has to return to her own little hell. My attorney is trying to get emergency custody. Is there any thing else I can do to get that SOB busted? Is there anything else I can do to protect my daughter?

Does anyone with a toddler have problems with them sleeping through the night? My daughter just turned 2yrs old and she wakes up every night crying. Sometimes I can get her to go back to sleep or sometimes she stays up. This happens almost every night. She has to be really tired to sleep through the night.

My son will say he wants let's say cheez doodles and I am doing something and before I can even get up to give it to him he is repeating himself over and over and screaming at the same time. How do I teach him to ask nicely and wait a few seconds for a response?
He's almost 3 by the way.

The child is 1 and she sleeps from 5:30 pm to 6:30 am. That's great and everything but my husband seems to think we can do something similar with our son who is 3. I try to tell him there is an age difference and also every child is different. He laready gets 12 hours ina 24 hour period, that's all he needs. How many hours does your 3 yr old get?

I have tried the don't offer, don't refuse, tried distracting her. Problem is that she remebers when the regular nursing times are and it upsets her very much. I want to do this gently and gradually, over the next 2 or 3 months, but I don't feel like we're making any progress. Andrea

My son is 17 months, I live with My fiance' and his Dad. We are saving up money and should be out by summer, but until then, my son should be off of the bottle i know! But his dad is kinda mean when it comes to sleeping at night. Were expected to fall asleep or at least be quiet at 9:30/10:00. If he hears my son cry he gets mad and says he'll kick us out. I would live with my family but living arrangements for them are kinda crowded right now because my grandparents had to move in with them. How do i get him off the bottle when this is going on because I know my son is going to be upset for a little while, atleast a week. How do i get through these nights without upseting either. I want my son to be off of it. Hes a good baby, but he just loves his bottle in the middle of the night!

comes home from his father's house, he is overly-emotional, insecure, and violent. He is never a problem for me any other time ... I've asked my ex if something happened, but each time he says nothing out of the ordinary. I need some ideas on how to make my son feel reassured and loved when he comes home.
Thanks for reading!

he will be 4 in early january...i know, typical preschooler problems, but he is literally living on a bite of eggs or 4 raspberries or 3 bites of a carrot stick. when i ask him what he wants, he'll tell me but then not eat it so i can't keep making something just for him, it doesn't work anyway. and, for example, this morning i asked him to get dressed for school (he fully knows how to dress himself) he screamed, threw things, hid in the bathroom, sat outside of his door...the only way i can eventually get things done is to take things away (today he gets no tv)...it always feels like negative stuff i am using to deal with his defiance but i can't allow him to think this behavior is acceptable. he is also not permitted sweets or treats now because he will not eat meals. at the end of my rope? any advice is appreciated :)

My 2 1/2 year old son started whining this weekend about everything. I picked him up under his arms to change his diaper, "Ooooowwwww mommy!" He dropped his half-full sippy cup of water on the ground (didn't even land on his foot) "ooowww foot hurts!" His brother stole one of his toys out of his hand, "Oooowwww hand hurts!" It seems that everything he did this weekend caused him (apparently) a great deal of excrutiating pain, LOL. Is this normal for a child of this age? If so, will he grow out of it soon??

My 2 year old son has nightmares about once a month. I'm not sure what causes them. This morning ( 2:30) he woke up screaming and pointing to his mattress saying" get it!" He only watches children's shows ( only on PBS). He slept very light the remainder of the morning. What can I do to help him?

My daughter is 19months and seems to be only interesting in drinking milk, I can hardly get her to eat anything. Any advice on how to work around this or should it just work itself out. I've tried everything I can think of.... one example... telling her she can have her milk if she eats some of her dinner, but that doesn't even work. Even trying to brib her w/ sweets, she doesn't want to eat. Any tips would be helpful!!

I'd heard about it, but didn't realise it also comes from nursing. I'd also heard babies don't need water which though mostly true, I'm now thinking it would be a good idea for nursing mothers to end a feeding with 10-20 cc of water if only to clean the teeth. I was noticing that my babies teeth looked chalky not pearly so I thought I'd scratch the surface to see if it was plaque and discovered it was worse than it looked and my baby started crying. His teeth haven't fully rotted luckily they still have their shape but one has a tiny flake that peeled. I will be taking him to the dentist on Wednesday.
Thanks for any experience or help you can share.

When I change her diaper, she wont put her legs down on purpose. I tell her firmly, then I sorta yell put your legs down so I can put your diaper on.She gets mad.Sometimes I spank her, but not hard, and sometimes it works.Mostly it doesnt though.I have found though if I giggle and laugh my way through diaper changing she will do as I ask. I just feel guilty for getting mad at her independance and her stuburness.I did potty train her for one month about 2 months ago, and she had a set back, but uses the potty about 5 -7 times a week voluntarily.I am thinking of starting again next month.she is 28 months.
