My 2 1/2 year old son started whining this weekend about everything. I picked him up under his arms to change his diaper, "Ooooowwwww mommy!" He dropped his half-full sippy cup of water on the ground (didn't even land on his foot) "ooowww foot hurts!" His brother stole one of his toys out of his hand, "Oooowwww hand hurts!" It seems that everything he did this weekend caused him (apparently) a great deal of excrutiating pain, LOL. Is this normal for a child of this age? If so, will he grow out of it soon??

he is just probably trying to get attention from you. Most children go through this whining stage. Yes eventually he will grow out of it. Just show him he can have your attention without whining.

Maybe he feels like he isn't getting enough attention. When he does that, ask him why he always says that everything hurts. Tell him he is a big boy now and he should act like that so people dont think he is a baby. yes he will grow out of it, sooner though if you let him know he isnt going to get the attention he wants by acting that way.

He will grow out of it if you teach him. my son tries to whine, too (he is 3, almost 4) and i tell him that he needs to talk in a normal voice, or else i'm not going to listen to him.
it's gotten to the point where all i have to do is say "nomal voice!" and he'll repeat whatever he has just said.
it takes a lot of patience, but he will get the hang of it :). it's okay for him to tell you when something hurts, but not whine it...

Everyone said the twos were terrible but the threes are more difficult in my opinion (funner too). the whining seems to be endless

i don't have a baby yet but i watched my niece from toddler up to now and according to my sister, 2 years old is a kind of "attention seeking" stage, one of the books even said it "terrible 2". don't worry, they'll all pass this stage bec. now my niece is already 4 years old and she's adorable. just be patient with your baby and read books about babies so you would know your baby is absolutely normal. after all, they are really just babies, dependents to grown-ups.
