My 3 and 5 year olds go to bed at 9 and get up at about 8 or 8:30 am they don't take naps and are fine. In fact when i put them to be at 9 they still chat for a while. Some 3 year olds require naps it just depends on the kid.
You should consider your own scedule if you must get up early for some reason then you will have to adjust the childs schedule by putting her to bed earlier. If you make bedtime too early it will be hard to do things, like if you are invited to a party or get together these things often start at 6 or 7.

Wow, at 3 I dont think he would be willing to sleep that long. I babysit a 4 yr old but Ive been with them since she was 2. I would get her ready for bed around 7:30 and she would be asleep by 8:15, and she wakes up at 7:30, but like you said every child is diffrent and when they are tired they will sleep.

Your husband needs to chill out and be thankful that your son sleeps the way he does. Because my son is 3 and has terrible sleeping habits. He goes to bed around 11 to 12 at night and wakes up at 8 or 9 in the morning and I know this is because he is not in daycare but at 5:30 in the afternoon I'm just taking my son to chuck e cheese to play (ha ha) so that's outrageous.

I would never put my child to bed at 5:30 pm for the common fact is that most families have dinner around that time and you are probably just getting off work at that hour. There is also need for bonding time between a parent and a child. My children go to bed at 8:00 pm on weekdays and 9:30pm on weekends and occasionally they get to stay up a hour late during the week.
Just to reference this to you my children are 7,5,2
You only have one chance to enjoy their age they only grow old.

I think that is too much, my doctor tells me that my 2 year old should get at LEAST 12 hours of sleep but should be around 14 hours so 5:30 may be too early but you guys can put him to bed around 7 or 8 maybe. My 5 year old goes to bed at 8 and I'm thinking that's too late because she goes to school all day and comes home exausted.

a three year old doesnt need more that 10 hours of sleep in one night.
7:30 is pretty realistic for bed time... but 530 is just a parent trying to be selfish. your husband should spend that time enjoying his son.

It all depends on what the child needs...some kids need more sleep than others, but it's good to have a bed time! My daughter was going to bed at 7pm at the age of 3, but we were getting up at 6am too...
