My 16 month old still sleeps in her crib (which is convertable, so I can change it to a toddler bed). She just recently started to walk, and she hasn't figured out how to climb things yet. I know there isn't a magical number or anything, but when do you know when your child is ready for a toddler bed?

I would wait until she's a little more mobile so she doesn't hurt herself getting in and out of it. My daughter is 17 months and has been walking since 13 months. She's been climbing for about the last 2 months. She can climb up pretty well, but she sometimes gets herself stuck and can't get back down. She's still in her crib. Thankfully she hasn't been able to climb out of it yet. My daughter is also an explorer, so I'm not ready just yet for her to get up in the middle of the night and wander around the house while we are sleeping. No matter how baby proof you have your home, toddlers always manage to get into something. Just something to think about. Good luck.

Every child is different. I put my son into a toddler bed when he was able to climb out of his crib and playpen. He was about 14 months old. As far as your lil one, I'd say wait another month or so. See how she does with climbing. Once shes able to climb on and off your sofa or small chair, then you could put her in the toddler bed. Make sure it has the rails on either side so she doesnt fall out. Best of luck to ya!

The "magic" height is supposed to be 35 inches tall, they recommend putting children into a toddler bed. Our doctor actually said as long as she showed no sign or trying to climb out, it was fine for as long as we wanted. She's 14 months now and has walked for months and climbs on everything in sight, but never even attempts to try to climb out of her crib, even when she is mad. So, we figure we will wait and see, I bet you could do the same. Good Luck!

I have 4 children. I waited until they quit rolling around in their sleep to put them in the bed and out of the crib. They were less likely to fall out of bed that way. They also slept thru the night and didn't come looking for mom & dad if they woke up. So that age is 2-3 yrs old, depending on the child's sleeping habits.

I have twin 2 yr olds still in cribs. A few years ago I would have thought that was horrible to do. My first child was out of a crib at 9 months. She figured out how to get out. So my thinking is when I potty train them obviously they will need acess to the bathroom, so they will need a lower bed. Untill then if they can't get out and they are safe...more power to the cribs. I am thankful they can't get out of them . The first child was into EVERYTHING and then some.

The first time I saw one of my twins trying to climb out of his crib, I switched them to toddler beds. You may want to wait until she has mastered walking. As long as she is safe in her crib, let her be. If she trys get out of it, it's safer to put her in a toddler bed. Good luck and enjoy this age it goes by WAY too fast.

If they can climb out of the crib then it is time to stop sleeping in the crib.

If they can safely get down out of bed then they can sleep in a bed.

If they can climb out of the crib but can't safely get down off the bed then you should probably put the mattress on the floor for a bit.

(Also BOLT dressers, bookcases and whatnot to the wall. Once they start getting out of bed on their own you need to really childproof their room.)
