This question is for moms. What do you think about the backpack harnesses you can put on your child with a strap for the parent to hold in their hand? I have a 2 year old who likes to walk and would dart away at any opportunity and doesn't like to hold my hand. We are going to an amusement park and I was wondering what people think of these.

My husband is the head coach of my sons youth hockey team. My son is the top line center and also the team captain. There's a boy on his team that has great skills but he lacks the confidence to do anything with it so my husband has been working with him at the rink for the last couple months(even though the season hasnt started yet). The boys father asked my husband if we had any of our sons old hockey equipment laying around and if he could borrow it for his son because they cant afford to buy him new. Now some of the other boys on the team know this and make fun of him, hence the lack of confidence. Well, the other day when they were leaving the rink the boy was crying to his father that he wants new stuff like all the rest of the boys.My husband told me he'd like to take him(with parents permission) and buy him all new equipment(stick, skates...) and he'd even pay for his jersey for the upcoming season. He's just worried the parents might take offense to it. Would it offend you?

My fiance' and I have been dating for 6 months and just got engaged. We are going to get married next summer. She is 30 and I am 37. I do not want to be too old to enjoy/keep up with my kids. We both want 2 kids. Should we wait until we have been married for one year first, or should we have kids right away?

I have 3 daughters and 1 son. The triplets are all five years old, two of them are girls. My other daughter is 3. When they are bad or something, we spank them bare butt. (Just a swat...NOT child abuse.) My neighbor said it was wrong for my husband to spank my daughters bare butt and it was wrong for my to spank my son bare butt. I mean, come on! They are still very little! She said it was also wrong for Blaze (my husband) to help me potty train Layla. (My 3 year old daughter.) What is your opinion on this? I think what she is saying is just plain stupid. I also think she is trying to tell me that I am a bad parent just because I am young. (I am 20.) What is your opinion on this?

I had my son in January 2007. His father denies that he is his. Therefore he is not on the birth certificate and is not paying child support. I'm soon to move out of texas and I will also be getting married. My fiance wants to adopt my son soon after. We are afraid that my son's father will find out and then sue for a paternity test and then try to take my baby. I spoke with him yesterday and asked him since he doesnt believe that the baby is his and he has nothing to do with him would he sign over his rights. He agreed but now I need to get all the paper work....where do i get this paper work with out involving court systems??

I have a friend who is a dad of 3 kids (6-10 yrs) & works as a waiter. He works 11am-2pm and 5pm-9pm on days when he doesn't have his children. He told me he averages 20-30 hours a week. He has joint-custody with his ex-wife, and alternates weeks with the kids placement. He can't support himself, and either lives with his parents or his girlfriend (who has mental health issues).

I told him to work more hours (only up to 40/wk), so he could get his own place, but he tells me, that it would take away time from his kids. He wants to drop them off at school, and also pick them up everyday, and spent as much time as possible with them. He also gets the kids every Wednesday, and his ex every Tuesday, whcih makes his work schedule harder to plan, since it isn't an exact week split.

I am not a parent, but part of me thinks that is a cop-out. It is great that he wants to be with his kids, but being a good parent means "providing" for the kids, not just being with them. Am I wrong?

If you did not have children? This is NOT a negitive question. I know people think of how life would be without kids, not necessarily longingly like they regret having children, but just as a general curiousity. What would your life be like if you never had kids? I know mine would be pretty dull.

He does not pay child support does not see her unless there is a family event. His family knows he does nothing for her. I don't keep her from seeing him, but I'm tired of feeling like she is a toy to him. She never wants to see him anyway. Do i think about her, and keep her away from him and his family?

Question:I'm 28. My hubby is about to turn 34. I have a 6 yr old son and as of right now he's my only one. Personally, I've said I wanted to have another child between the time my son is like 7-10. Please noone say anything about didn't I want to have my children real close in age, because I have wanted mine spaced apart some though I know it is not the norm compared to what most people do. Anyway, I just want to know about when you had your second child if you waited a while and just about how that worked out for you?

Thank you in advance for your reply!

How old was your child when he/she first read Harry Potter?
Could your child comprehend?
Was the writing too advanced?
Was it too scary?
What age is too young?
What is the best age to start?

Thanks!

Even when their parent(s) or guardian(s) are right there and do nothing to stop it? I was at my doctor's office the other day and there was a man there (late 30's or early 40's) and he had two children with him - a girl about 10 or 11 and a boy about 7 or 8. The girl was fairly quiet, but the boy was running up and down the hallway outside the office and doing headstands in empty chairs. Finally, for no apparent reason, he lit into his sister. This wasn't just playfulness - he was really punching her hard. He finally knocked her down on the floor of the waiting room and started pounding her head against the wall. The "father" just sat there and didn't say or do anything. He had some towel or cloth pressed against his right eye. The other people in the waiting room seemed totally oblivious to what was going on and continued to read their magazines or stare straight ahead. I can't believe this wouldn't have attracted some attention. What can be done about these "wild" kids in public?

for the past 7 years come the summer hoildays, there I am looking after my two children and my sisters.
problem is she never sends any money for ice creams etc.
as I like to go out and not be stuck around the house.
I have the children for at least 5-6 hours 4 days a week for 5-6 weeks, I`m fed up of being used no pocket money for the kids or a return in favour such as she will have my kids for a day on her day off
so have not offered to have them this summer so they are going to my mothers, mum lives in the country side cant drive, the problem is I feel sad for the children who will be stuck in while I take my children out of the day. But I dont want to be used any more I cant afford it
Any ideas ?

I do work and I had to go back to the office from maternity leave as early as two months after giving birth. My baby is now 7 months old and all these time, it was my husband, his sister and his mom who takes care of my baby.

i cant fit in my schedule. i work graveyard shift so i sleep at day and leave at night. I am really becoming afraid seeing my worst fear, my son does no recognize me. I think he doesnt even know me. I dont think he knows im his mother.

I always observe him. he squeals as soon as he sees or hears his dad, his aunt and his grandma but usually no reaction ( not even a glimpse or quick look) if it is me calling him.

Believe me, it really hurts. I cant stop working because if i do, we'll have financial problems.

Do you also work? do u leave your child? does he/she recognize u or respect you as his parent?

i have fifteen month old twins and they have had small fevers for a couple of days-nothing serious but one of my girls last night had a "fit" at bedtime. she started screaming and writhing around the floor and when i picked her up she was completely stiff which is not too uncommon in most cases for her. she is already rebellious and fights when being put in a seat or something but this was scary. i was going to take her to the hospital but took her for a car ride to calm her down instead.she would not let me touch her head and it lasted about fifteen minutes and then almost suddenly she fell asleep. i thought she was ok but then it happened again today. i am taking her to the doctor but my neighbor just told me it could be seizures so i am scared for her. i was scared holding her and even thought she was possessed(i know it sounds crazy) but i was scared. does anyone have insight? thanks

I live with my married friends, and their kids are lazy. The mom works and the dad doesn't care that they mess up the whole house. One child is 7 and one is 11. I've tried everything within reason to get them to help out. Are they too young or just too spoiled?

My bf of over 3 years and I broke up in late Feb. of this year…I did something unthinkable and so wrong to him that I’m almost sure that heaven is a no go for me. [I rather not disclose what I did for it is too personal] he’s lost complete trust in me, and is really upset and saddened by what I did to him. More than anything he says I ruined his life…the problem here now is that I am 6 months pregnant with his little girl. He and I have been in constant contact over how to go about handling the situation of our daughter. However, he is so angry and upset with me that he doesn’t want to be a part of her [baby] life, that it would be best if he weren’t involved. I feel the complete opposite. I don’t want him back, but I do feel that for the sake of our daughter he should be involved in her life, no matter what I did, for she should not pay the price for what I did. I’ve told him this but he’s still unsure, confused, hurt and believes that he shouldn’t be involved. I really need advice on what to do, how to go about this, and how to make him see that he should be involved regardless of what I did…please help ASAP!!! Serious answers only…please…thank you
