My friend is a single mother ( i was there too once upon a time) and her house is a complete disaster area. There are dishes in the sink piled a mile high (and she has a dishwasher), her bathroom is a swamp, and the bedrooms and living room scare the hell out of me. Her baby is 6 months old and she has two cats that share a litter box. She claims to clean it once a day but I seriously dont think so and I really hate to doubt my friend. She has had child services in because of some post partum issues and has been warned to clean her house. How can i motivate her to clean it up and keep it clean while being somewhat tactfu. BTW i am not tactful by nature so thus my request for help. I dont want her baby taken away from her. HELP!

my son is 20mnths old. if he cant have his own way, or if one of us leaves the room he has a screaming fit. sometimes it subsides sometimes he just sits and screams and when we try to pick him up or move him he thrashes and hits out. hes just started doing this when we go out and is having one right now.
he is very clever for his age, has been walking for nearly a year, says some words (ie, yes and no, car, doggy, duck, oh look, hiya, bye, 4 3 2 go, basic vocab basically). he isnt spoilt but he has everything he needs and eats and drinks well. generally hes a happy healthy child and can be very affectionate but independent too.
another thing hes started doing is laughing when he is told no. i have tried telling him no, mild smacking (but never more because i dont like it) , timeout, going to bed if he continues to repeat negative behaviour on tantrums but i'm finding it very hard!
help?

If you seen a mother nursing in public what would your reaction be?

What if you had your children with, which has never been exposed to a nursing mother?

My ex-husband and I got married at 27 and at the time he was fully aware that I never intended to have children and he told me he was ok with that. I couldn’t find a doctor who’d let me get my tubes tied in my 20’s so I took every other precaution I had available to make sure I didn’t get pregnant. After 3 years of marriage I got pregnant and was determined to abort it but everyone around me especially my husband begged me to reconsider assuring me I’d feel different once she was born. I ended up having my daughter , signing away all parental rights and divorcing him because I didn’t see how we could make it work with a baby I never wanted in our lives. I see my daughter about four times a month when dropping off the 5 dogs we share custody over. My family has virtually disowned me for not having any contact with my daughter who turned 3 last week. Why can’t they just understand that I don’t want to be part of her life? Note: At the insistence of my mother who adores children, I went to several doctors who all confirmed that I’m not suffering from any type of depression and am in perfect health. I just recently got a promotion with a significant pay increase and have a wonderful boyfriend of a year and just couldn’t be happier. Why can’t they be happy for me?

After 10yrs it has been brought to my attention that I am a father of a child. Not believing that I had a DNA test done which turned out to be mine. So, now there is a question of Child Support. No problem since I would like to get to know my son. My issue here is that the mother has a total of 5 kids 3 from her husband and 2 from different fathers. I do not believe that my son will receive all the funds. Now I have a daughter and know what it takes to support her with everything and anything she wants clothes, toys, medical, food and the amount the mother is getting from me is a ridiculous amount of money.

Now my question here is; how do I make sure my son is getting all the money I am paying?

I'm getting so fed up with my neighbors! They brag all the time about all the new and expensive stuff they buy, but yet their kids are always asking me for food! Today, the woman asked my 9 year old to ask me if I could give her a loaf of bread. I simply told him to tell her we are out of bread, and told my 12 year old that he would run to the corner store for her if she gave him $2. He came back and said that she didn't have any money. Are they f*ckin' kidding me?! Then she sends the boy over here to ask for lunch because she doesn't feel like making it!!!! (yes, I'm preturbed) I told him we already had lunch. I feel bad for the boy, but I feel worse being taken advantage of by people who clearly have enough money to feed their family, while I'm over here making end$ meet.

What would you do?

I know it is a massive culteral divide.

In the UK where I was brought up, anything under 5 years old is seen as barbaric.

Now in NYC I see babies 6 months old with little earrings.

My daughter is 2.

Maybe I will wait until she can decide for herself.

What are the general thoughts out there on the matter??

thanks xx

We live in a duplex and have for about 5 years now. New neighbors moved in about a year ago and we have never had problems with them until recently. At the end of the spring We tore down an old swing set that was out there and dangerous for our children. The neighbor asked (all of her children are teens but she has a young grandchild) if we would pitch in and help clean up the yard and build a sandbox, we did. The sand box is covered with a tarp and my children use it frequently. Someone is always outside with my children and I usually double check at night that it is still covered. Yesterday she was yelling at my kids (ages 7 and 3 and my hubby was outside with them) accusing them of leaving the sandbox opened twice the day before. I know for a fact that her DD had been over and uncovered it for her child (I watched her do it and we were not home all afternoon until 9 PM). I want to say something to her but am wondering if I should just let it go. Any opinions?

i mentioned to a friend that my mom used to get us clothing at goodwill and yard sales even tho we had money for store bought things. we wore from all 3 really i explained.
she was floored and flipped that kids should never wear 2nd hand things.
there is nothing wrong in my eyes. most things kids wear is grown out of so fast they wear it only a few times.
i don't see a reason to pay $10-20 a shirt and $20 for pants for an infant/toddler/child to wear a few times when you can get 2nd near new things for pennies on the dollar.

i got over 40 pcs of clothing for a 2t girl on ebay for $50 total w/shipping and her mom spent $300 for clothing for her bday!

what makes ppl pay outrageous prices for clothing when you can get tons for cheap going 2nd hand... (you can just get specific things from store to "fill in" what you don't get 2nd hand)

I know this is way in advance but I want to be prepared for Halloween. My 3 yo son - who hates wearing costumes - has out of the blue told me that he wants to be a snake for Halloween. Has anyone ever made this type of costume before, or have any ideas?

I know there are a TON of preschoolder programs on televison. Barney, Blue's Clues, Sesame Street, etc.

But how much television is too much television? Shouldn't we be interacting more with our children than plopping them down in front of TV and letting the Teletubbies raise our children?

How much TV do you let your kids watch? Are these shows beneficial at all to very young children?

Like 5-6 year olds. I never understood that one. My niece who is 6 carries around a Hello Kitty purse. I snatched it from her and asked "What have you got in here you little monkey"
She grabbed it back, kicked me in the leg and called me a poophead.

...upset over possible deaths in the "Harry Potter" books.
What has ever happened to the role of *Parents* in monitoring their children's reading and dealing with their emotions?
Are we supposed to leave all of this to "helplines" these days and what does that say about our Society never mind the type of books that our children are reading?
This is all that I can find on the subject so far -

Seriously! A woman asked about this and I can't believe how many people are against it and say it's inhumane! What's inhumane, yes, are the people who use it to yank their kids around the mall with them. But if you're already holding their hand but you have the leash on JUST IN CASE they let go and run off, WHAT IS WRONG WITH THAT?! I seriously do not see the harm in confirming your child's safety in a crowded place, where there are strangers everywhere. Any one person in that crowded place could just be looking for that one kid that gets away from his mom so they can snatch him up. So how would you feel if you were a person who bashed using the harness and then one day your kid got kidnapped in the mall? You'd feel pretty foolish, wouldn't you?
