Like 5-6 year olds. I never understood that one. My niece who is 6 carries around a Hello Kitty purse. I snatched it from her and asked "What have you got in here you little monkey"
She grabbed it back, kicked me in the leg and called me a poophead.

My daughter has carried one since she as probably 4. She has her little brush, mirror, and chap stick in it. Plus any money (coins) she has so she can spend them in the gumball machines.

if you see me carrying a purse it's because i am going somewhere that i will be waiting awhile, like the Dr's office and i was recently on jury duty. On those occasions i carry my wallet, a book to read, a puzzle book, pens, my cell phone, hard candy, gum and a water bottle in my purse. Any other time i have my id, debt card and cash shoved into my pockets. i would lose my head if it wasn't attached, so i really don't need anything else to keep up with.

It's a right of passage - a symbolism of womanhood. It makes them feel like mommy/auntie/gramma/hannah montana. lol.

Mine has several - all junk, half of them free or 99cents. She carries around rocks sometimes, or her "money" (pennies). Once in a while I'll spot a little pony and brush, or a lip balm. She's also very territorial about her purse, I think because she knows mommy's purse is a danger zone - no touching.

Poophead is bad! So forgive me for laughing. lol. But you never look in another woman's purse! Lesson learned! :)

I have a 9 year old daughter that has carried a purse for several years. In it, she keeps a hair brush, chapstick, her coin purse, a few small toys and several other things.

It is no different than a little boy carrying around his loot in his pockets. My 7 year old son carries a comb, a wallet, and always has a couple of Hot Wheels cars or such in his pocket.

It keeps them entertained! Children imitate what they see their parents do-we carry things that are important to us, and they carry things that are important to them (or necessary, in the case of the hair brush and comb).

My 7 year old carries her purse with her to the grocery store with me. It's the only time she wants to bring it so I think she likes to feel grown up. I do know what she has in it though, she has some coupons from the paper and things that she cut out just because she liked them and some band aids and a pen.

Well if you snatched it like you said, then you are a poophead. Although I don't condone kicking. And little girls are just trying to be like "big" girls.

little kids like to feel older. and when they see either there parents or another grown- up carrying a purse they want to do it to. it is just like sometimes you will a see a seven year old standing in one spot concentrating deeply on a paper and you will walk over and they will be drawing a sun. but they probaly saw their parent concentrating on a paper so they are doing it.

HOPE THIS HELPS!

The same reason little girls have 'boyfriends', wear makeup or play house. Parents are worried by these things, but they're only roleplaying techniques. When you're six, twelve year old girls are the coolest thing on the planet!

She is mimicking her Mom or maybe you who carry purses. It is a
growing up process. What she was trying to say--maybe--this is my
purse, it's private--like yours. This is how little girls learn. Don't
hassle her or your other leg might suffer. lol : } It's very normal for
little girls to want to play dress up or just feel grown up.

They see mom and other women carry them so they want to. It makes them feel like a grown up. Kind of like playing dress up. Even though they are little they are still female. So in many ways they will be attracted to female things. And they want to be just like mommy.
