Good for you for wanting to help and make a difference.
There are many ways you can help. Volunteering for an abused children's charity is one. Look them up for your area. There should be a number of different types. Some could involve manning phonelines to deal with calls from young people, or they could be more indepth than that with direct contact.
I should imagine you would need a lot of training and obviously the necessary background checks. Put your name forward and see what comes of it.
If you want to make a career out of it, you could become a social worker specialising in this type of work. You could also become a police officer, as they often come face to face with cases like this too. Be prepared for some pretty harrowing stuff. It's not the sort of job you leave at the office.
You could also become a foster carer. Children from bad homes need places to go on a temporary basis. This could make a huge difference immediately to some very needy children. If you can give them a home, you would be helping in probably the most significant way possible. Be prepared for some difficult, damaged children, though.
You could also work with teenagers or younger children at youth centres and similar places, organising activities, providing support and guidance. You could well come into contact with some troubled kids there.
Whatever you decide, I hope it works out for you.

That's a tough question. Generally it's Social Workers (who have gotten a degree in social work through a college or university) that are the ones most involved with abuse cases. It can be hard to get your foot in the door as a young person.
I would suggest you check your phone book and start with more generalized places, such as a rape crisis center. You won't specifically see only young people, but there will be some. Same with maybe volunteering with a woman's shelter / transition house. Or a youth crisis line, most of them are happy to accept volunteers. Or places like Planned Parenthood, which isn't so much for abuse specifically, but young people do use it. You may need to just get in some hours volunteering with youth before places will take you for the harder jobs like abuse.

Check with your local YWCA and see if there are any programs in need of volunteers. Also your local mental health agency would have a list of such organizations.
There are many ways to help kids. Big Bothers/Big Sisters is good. It gives you a chance to make a difference by setting an example and giving a parent a chance for respite. There is the Boys and Girls club as well.
Just make sure that you are going into this with the right frame of mind. The last thing these kids need is to be judged in any way.

You will need training to be able to deal with disturbed and unhappy children. Abused children often throw out very challenging behaviour.Best get to college and get the correct qualifications to be a social worker or care worker in a specialist home. Alternatively you could register to be a foster carer or even an adoptive parent.

Local social services, maybe CPS (child protective services) There are other organizations like CASA (court appointed advocates) where you will be the voice of the abused child in the courtroom. Good luck in your seach of making for a safer place for our little ones!
