My husband and I have different last names. We are planning on hyphenating our child's last name, as neither of us are comfortable with choosing one name or the other. However, our last names are /ahem/ long and thusly the child's last name will be very long. What would you do? Would you just grin and bear it and pick one last name for the child? Some family members and friends have said that it's mean(!) to give a child a long last name.

I have two teenage sons who are extremely lazy. I'm tired of coming off as the person always complaining and I'm fed up with yelling at them. There have to be better ways to get them to help.

I know a couple who has a young daughter, but one of the parents is ducking away from the cops, has a ton of warrents, is driving a car w/o a licence, & no insurance, the parent was in an accident about 4 months ago and didn't report it, and the person she hit is now trying to sue, and she got a letter saying that her licence is going to be suspended...but she still dirves.. the daughter is VERY young, and do to lack of care is missing her 6 front teeth on the top, and lives in a messy home. The other parent either doesn't care or is to scared to say or do anything, or thinks that everythings normal...

I want to do something, but I know I can't, it's just hard to see this happening to the little girl... is it right for me to be mad, and hurt, and scared for the little girl???

My son is almost 2, I am pregnant with our third, due in Feb, I've got two toddler beds and one crib. So I was planning on getting him into a toddler bed before Feb anyway but hadn't put much thought into it. But now my son has figured out how to get out of the crib, so I guess now would be a good time to start. My daughter is 4, I don't remember having a problem with her, she was so much more advanced and I was a single mother at the time so she had always slept with me in a real bed not a crib so moving her to her own bed was really easy. So even though he is my second I feel kinda clueless on how to go about getting him to start sleeping in a toddler bed. He was a premie and seems a little slower with his learning and I know that he will be up and down all night and that he will get into things quietly that we may not hear right away. I know a lot of kids do that. We block off most of the house with baby gates but now he can climb over those too. continued read on....

When reading a question have you ever thought: the asker should have thought about the problem in question before it even resulted in a problem?

For example: “How can I stop my child from demanding a toy every time we go to the store?” Then in the details they explain how they used to get them a toy every time but now they want to stop. OR “How can I stop my two year old from swearing?” Then goes on to say they only swore around her until she started having a potty mouth.

It's questions like those that make me wonder if anyone out there is cautious and aware what they are doing now can and will positively or negatively affect the future.

Are there that many parents who think of consequences or their actions or am I alone on this?

My nephews are going through some kind of trauma and fear after
watching "Freddie Vs. Jason" the movie, and now they have started wetting the bed and they can't even go to the bathroom or any dark places by themselves. My nephews' babysitter let them
watch the movie on Halloween (she's now fired).

Has anyone had this happened to your kids and how you dealt with it? Thank you.

When your children live under your roof when do you stop watching them sleep checking on them at night before you yourself go to sleep? Or does it continue until they move out or go to college? Just wondering if its jsut me that does this

I heard that there was a website for the little girl that was on Dr Phil, the one whose mother was saying her dad was sexually molesting her. I got the name of the site and i know it is right, but i have tried to open it about 6 times and it just keeps "thinking" and will never open. Is it possible that there are too many people trying to get onto that site right now? Has anyone else tried to get onto it?

She cruises around the furniture all day and takes steps on her own SOMETIMES, but it seems that she would rather crawl to get where she needs to go. I am beginning to worry.

We have a daycare in the home and some of the kids come to your house stinking of cigarette smoke. These parents smoke around their kids and I find it disgusting and at least they could smoke outside so their kids arent breathing it in What is your opinion?

I always thought I was a lovable, caring mother, but today I'm worried.
My young daughter usually rides in a wagon if we go shopping. For one of the first times I didn't bring the wagon with us. My hands were rather full of bags, so I was having a difficult time making sure my youngest was holding the stair rails to the subway. I suppose she's not used to going down the stairs and she was a bit afraid, so she tried to sit down on the stairs. I held her hand but since she was trying to sit down it looked rather awkward. Anyway, the train was coming and I was urging her to hurry up. I finally picked her up and rushed down the stairs to catch the train. When we got down the stairs a lady said to me, 'Maybe we should call the police on you'. I was shocked, I asked 'Why?' and she said' I don't like the way you are treating her'. I replied 'I was just trying to lift her down the stairs'. I was so shaken. I have never hurt my children. I love them so much. Was what I did wrong, if so,how?

Broken Trust
By: Kenny P. aka- Cobra

Friends come and then they go,
leaving behind, the pain which they committed.

From the trust, that was given to them freely,
with no concern, of the destruction they inflicted.

How do I believe others, from this moment on?
and how many more years, must I try?

To accept the fact, that people are hurtful,
and I’ve learned my lesson, I will not cry.

Where do, these people come from, and I ask,
what manner of iron will, must some people possess.

To enjoy hurting others, with their broken trust,
and always looking forward, to never accept regress.

So if sometimes it seems to you.
I’m clinging to the past.

It’s mostly because, I can’t yet accept,
The trust, that didn’t last.

My mother wants to constantly watch my son. She is very good with him, but is not in the best health. Physical or mental. We let her come to our house to watch him for a couple hours at a time, but will not let him over to her house now that my father and her have split. Her house is horribly smokey & she's constantly sucking down beer no matter what time of day it is. I do not agree with either and have told her. I feel bad because it's my mother and she loves my son to death. But I have to look out for the safety of my child. I just don't know what to do or say when she asks me. I Have told her over and over, no smoking or drinking. She swears she won't do either but how do I know. Plus she constantly complains to me about how bad the cartlidge is in her knee and how it's going to go out. That she can't work but 3 hours a day. So what makes her think she can watch a 1 1/2 year old that's all over the place? I'm looking for guidance on this subject - I'm running out of ideas.

My son just turned a year old today and we just simply could not afford to do anything at all for him because of a job transition and tight, tight budget. And I feel guilty because your first birthday is such a special one.

Ok, here's the situation. My daughter is 4 1/2 years old. She has not seen her biological father for over 3 years, and probably will never see him again. He gave up his parental rights when we divorced, so I am literally her only parent. I have been dating an amazing guy for about 8 months and we are moving in together in January. My daughter has started asking if my boyfriend is her daddy. Now we do want to get married, but there's no ring yet and you never know what's going to happen. She knows she doesn't have a dad and knows that most kids have dads. Ugh, it's so frustrating. How do I explain to my 4 year old that my boyfriend is not her daddy, even though one day he more than likely will be. When I get the question "Is Evan my daddy?" I tell her "maybe someday and I sure hope so". Any other suggestions?

For hundreds of generations, spanking has been acceptable. Children were more well minded and respectful. About 15 years ago, people decided that it was the wrong thing to do, we are now getting the first products of this no spanking generation. I would like for someone to give me a good reason why this is so please tell me. I am a parent and I refuse to allow my child to disrespect me and throw punches and some of the other crazy things that I have seen.

One of the reasons why me and my husband are divorcing is because i didnt want kids with him but I want children with my boyfriend? Is that wrong of me. Or is it because i didnt love my husband as much as i thought? Thanks

He is getting older and rarely comes over. I would like to just use a photo of our kids which was taken at Thanksgiving and he is not with us that day but my husbands family is upset if his son is not in our Christmas photo. My husband would like that he is in the photo but is okay if he is not. Would it be unapproprate to not include him?
