My son just turned a year old today and we just simply could not afford to do anything at all for him because of a job transition and tight, tight budget. And I feel guilty because your first birthday is such a special one.

Nobody remembers their first birthday. Even if circumstances were different and you could've thrown him a party, the only way he'd know he had a party would be later on when he's old enough to look at pictures that may have been taken during the party. He's gonna be 1 for a whole year, so who says you have to only celebrate birthdays for one day? I know adults who celebrate their birthdays anywhere from a weekend to two weeks! Whenever your financial situation gets better, throw him a small party! He'll be none the wiser!

Happy Birthday to your son. I know how you feel with times being tough. Don't beat yourself up over it though. I am sure that he was just happy to spend the day with you. The next time you have a little extra money do something special for him. Maybe lunch at the McDonalds playground, or take him to the park if you are somewhere warm. Then maybe a trip to Toys R Us to pick out a toy. Good luck

oh its OK girl i know exactly how you feel. and it sucks that happened to me and my husband for our sons first birthday we were in the middle of moving out of state and were on really tight budget too. all i can tell you is that don't let it eat at you and cheer up. he most likely will not remember and one day he will understand. just make him a little cake sing to him read him a little book and that will be ok that is all you can do right and at least you acknowledged it right. one day you can make it up to him. I am kinda glad to know that this kind of thing doesn't just happen to me. good luck.

Don't feel guilty. Bake some cupcakes and get a candle. Take pictures of you, baby and dad. One of the things that my son loved best was stuff one of his old sweatshirts, sew the open ends, and he has his own huggy/pillow.

Don't feel bad, hun. He's more than likely not going to remember it. It would be nice to bake at least a cake or something.. but money issues is life. Sometime we just can't afford certain things,

Don't feel bad. Some things just can't be helped. What's important is that your son feels loved, not how many gifts or an elborate party he gets. Your boy won't remember anyway.

Did ya hug him big and let him know all day that ya love him? Don't sweat it. This is by far a bigger deal to parents than it is to the kid. Just wait until his 10th birthday...no mercy if you blow that one!
