To be quite honest, that's bad that you'd even ask that of us. A proper gift would be one that considers the personality of the child. We have no idea what your child's interests or even needs are. If you absolutely do not have a clue, ask him to list out about 20 things he would like and pick a few for him. Spend more time with him in 2007 so you'll have the instincts to know what your child will appreciate as a gift.

I have 2 child - 7years old and 5months old. I suggest the best gift is something that educates and interesting to your child. When my boy is 5years old, I bought him a children educational Note Book which cost about S$149. The note book is a good ideal learning for children age 4 to 12years old. You can choose the different learning stages and levels that suit your child age and IQ. It has various educational functions such as IQ Games and various interesting tutorial teaching in Mathematics, English Grammar, Science, Music, Sound, learning different languages, etc. It is very interesting and worth buying for a long term use. My son loves it very much. It not only make him happy but also helps to improve his study. If you want to buy, see the content and choose the right one and not merely simple plain game. Choose something that benefit your child. It may be a bit expensive but it worth buying anyway.Alternatively, if you don't like this, then get a game-boy as a gift . I just bought this game last week for my son because he got good grades in his final examination results.

Get him a bucket of K'NEX. Boys at that age really seem to enjoy those. And, they come with books full of things to make and it'll show him step by step how to make them which will keep him entertained for hours.
